Try that one. The dog on the very right looks like Steele. Either way, can a husky even have black fur?
<EDIT> Gah, she left the library >_<
That link isn't working for me, but only because my bloody computer's "web protection" has classed it as nudity O.o
But I know which dog you're talking about, and yes, he is the spitting image of Steele. But no, he isn't a Malamute - he's a Siberian Husky.

Steele philosophy towards pedigree:
Same dog breeds together: fine by him
Different dog breeds together: fine by him
Two wolves together: fine by him
A dog and a wolf together: not fine by him
There's a dog world and a wolf world and should be kept seperate. Any mixes are an embarrassment to this order.
It's very similar to the racism in America. The white people of different ethnicities can intermarry (Irish, Italians, Germans, etc). But Black people could only marry their own kind. Even if you're mixed, you're still black. This was much like Steele's opinion. Balto was a "wolf" in Steele's eyes, even though Balto was half.
*Note: I don't think Balto deliberately put a political message of racism in their movie. The message of Balto is more about being in between and finding your place.

What have today's children been exposed to? Quote: But I know which dog you're talking about, and yes, he is the spitting image of Steele. But no, he isn't a Malamute - he's a Siberian Husky. That's odd... I've had huskies and malamutes confused all this time. *Is not well educated towards dog breeds*. Malamutes somehow remind me of wolves. Well, is anyone sure of Steele's breed? Because Jenna is definitely a husky... says Aleu.

I'm still going to go with malamute. Compare it to The Lion King. Scar was a lion, but had all black mane (which an indominant lion should not have) and brown fur (as opposed to tan).
To make him look more intimidating, they not only made him bigger, but they also gave him a more sinister coloration, not unlike Scar. This kind of stuff is not outside the physics of cartoonism.

He is a husky, I am pretty sure.
Yes, huskies DO come in "black".
A few photos of PURE BRED huskies.
Also, somebody on here(Starsky) was reading her Balto Sticker Album and she said: "one of the first pages it clearly states that Steele is a purebred Husky. A championship husky." (You can find this post at: viewtopic.php?t=6304&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45)
And yes, I am sure there is many huskies that are as big as Steele.

Oh yes, a Siberian Husky can get as big an Steele, I have seen one. Heres some pictures of one, when we were giving someone a little sled dog tour. My Siberian Husky Banshee (On right) is a pretty big Siuberian Husky, bigger then most. But this Siberian Husky was the biggest I have ever seen. (I don't remember the Siberians name, I think it was Blaize tho)
The other Siberian may not look that big, but thats because he wasn't standing straight, and Banshee was howling at him. lol.
Heres some pictures.
You can't really tell the Siberian is big in this picture.
If you look in the background you can see my dog Chance, who is pretty big. This Husky was bigger. And the husky that is circled is the big one.
Lol. These two Huskies look alike too.
And Vivid, Steele could not have been both. He was a pur bred, why would Balto say "Since when do you need a pedigree to help someone" to Steele?
And Beta wolf, Huskies do come in black fur, the real Balto was black. And a Siberian Husky CAN be as small as star. But Star looked more like an Alasken Husky (Which are smaller then regular Siberians)
 The real Balto.
And thats nuff said for now. XD

Thats not for all Siberians And Malamutes. Thats just the average size, but they can get much bigger, or smaller then that. And most Malamutes are much bigger then Siberians.

Yup, but Steele could also be an "Canadian Eskimo" dog. Another big, fluffy, sled dog breed.
