Oh, yes. I've lived here in Florida all my life. xD We got our rain and hurricanes which are not fun at all (but they're not around as much as you think).
I personally do not like Miami (poor people and crime there), but I live right by West Palm Beach, which I think is beautiful. If anyone wants to visit Florida for it's beauty, they should try Palm Beach, Tampa, or the Keys (Key West/Key Largo). Orlando is fun for their theme parks of course (Disney/Universal/Sea World/etc), but I like the rest of Orlando too. Oh, and I also recommend Ft. Lauderdale for the artsy people (also a lovely area).
There are actually many different beaches around. Some are dirty, some are clean, some are private and some are public. Again Palm Beach is beautiful, even their beaches. Tampa has at least one very beautiful beach too. I am not sure about Orlando though. Oh, and of course the Keys has beautiful beaches. Ft. Lauderdale might have a nice beach..I really don't know. >_>
It's not really "stereotyping" Florida, because it's all true (except maybe the roller coaster part, lol). We have alot of sunshine, but we need the rain to keep it that way, ya know? Because of course, it gets mad hot around here! We have hurricane watches every year but that doesn't mean we get a hurricane every year.
I also have to mention something that bugs me... There are TONS of great museums here in Florida! I don't know why "Florida vacations" never mention this. Pretty much in every major area you go in Florida, there are brilliant museums whether it'd be about history or art. We also have great performance arts here (Broadway, Opera, Plays, Concerts, etc)
So, here's my little conclusion.. Florida IS beautiful, it just depends where you go.. and Florida is CULTURED. Oh, and for all the cartoon lovers... There are cartoon museums too. ;D
