That has been proved the Titanics break up started at a shallow angle instead of high in the air. They found that the expansion joint on the Titanic had to much stress on it causing the hull to crack. They even dived on the Titanics sister ship Britannic and looked at the expansion joint and found it had a round shape at the end to reduce stress. It would seem that Harland & Wolff knew about the weak spot on the hull.
They basically let the Titanic sail to it's doom since back then they could prove White Stars liability for the death of 1500 people well now 95 years later we can prove they were liable. Also new documents have surfaced that the Olympic was having problems with the hull cracking do to the expansion joint weakness.

on a show called Titanic Anatomy of a Disaster they found the iceberg damage and found it wasn't that big. As big as 12 square feet Edward Wilding during the hearings on the disaster said that the damge was not that big. As for the hull they found it had metal impurities such as maganese sulfur in the hull. When that was exposed to 28 degree water the impurities became worse causing the metal to shatter like glass

did you know that lifejackets were one of the leading causes of death on the Titanic. Because the lifejackets were nothing but giant hunks of cork. And when you jumped from more than 10 ft the cork would slam into your neck and break it. I found a picture of a lifejacket from the Titanic with blood on it

I saw that special on History channel where they found out that Titanic split earlier than in the movie. They found the bottom plates of the hull with clean breaks. That and, the split occuring so soon was caught people off guard and that's why so many were unconcerned and unprepared when the end came.
