Yes, you should give credit to the company who originally made the character, personality, history and all that jazz, but I think the wolf form is copyrighted to the person who designed the form. For example, I've seen many pictures of peoples conceptions of what the Harry Potter characters look like, and they all look different. The design is copyrighted by them, but the actual character is copyrighted to the producers.

Well I wouldn't go that far by putting history in it. But yes, they should put copyrights like I said

I still think the character is NOT copyright to the person who simply makes a wolf form of a character. If that were true, if someone took one of your characters but made it another animal, lets say, with the same markings, personality, etc, but claimed it as their own, does that makes sense to you? Sure doesn't to me. Those are FAN-VERSIONS to me, and are originaly copyright to the owner. So Zuko, Aang, etc's wolf forms are fan-versions, and should be copyrighted to their owners. I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but it's still the same character but in another form. Plus, there are probably alot of other people who have made similar forms of characters like that.

Well it's hard to copyright making some of your favorite characters as wolves, since so many others do the same thing. I wouldn't try to copyright it, maybe just say it's your version of that character as a wolf or whatever. That's just my opinion. If someone tried making one of my characters another animal and claiming it as there own I sure wouldn't be happy.

Good points. It sure wouldn't make me happy if that happened. But how about making the wolf form of the character, then copyrighting the design to yourself and copyrighting the character to the producers/character designers?

It would still be hard to do with, I'm sure, all those different versions out there. And it might not be worth it when people try to say you "stole their character", but you could try it, copyrighting a design would work.

She only has similar markings to the red-faced pup in Balto II, she is drawn in a different style, and is pretty much entirely different. The character Kiona does not belong to Universal, nor her design. Kiona is a fan made character, and even if she does have similar markings, Kiona is entirely different in every other way. Now, if you were to draw, say, Rosie in what you think her wolf form would be, Rosie (the human char) is (C) universal. But her wolf form is (C) to you.
Second that. If you make a certain form for an official character yourself any part you make up yourself is yours, and if its off another character its therefore a fan character.

Well, here's what I think. The red faced pup for example is Universal's. Cat has her own version of it and it is Kiona, a FAN character inspired by the red faced pup, right? Now Cat has also different versions of her fursona. Cat, Saluki, Hybrid, and her wolf version was created by Silver Deni. Now it is Silver Deni's version of Cat, but the copyrights to Cat still HAVE to exist because it is version of Cat's character. So the wolf fursona belongs to Cat, but was designed by Silver Deni, because cat's fursona is a FAN character. Universal's pup is Universal's but Kiona is completely copyrighted to Cat as she is CatWhoHas14Tails' FAN (once again FAN) character.
