Didn't the shooting take place during the israeli holocaust-memorial-day? Prety ironic. Poor guy.

Well, it's only common sense to indicate that they didn't know what was going on at that point. Do you know the confusion and panic that would have been created by trying to evacuate over 10000 people off a college campus? Where would you put them? Where would they go? When would they come back? It's easy to sit back now and point fingers and say, "Oh, well, they should have done 'x' or 'y'" but the simple fact of the matter is that no one knew what was going on, they assumed that it was an isolated shooting, and the logistics of trying to evac an entire campus of students and faculty in less than 2 hours is impossible. By the time they got an email sent to everyone about the shooting, the massacre was already happening. Don't pour salt in the wounds of the Virginia Tech staff. They did the best they could.

The best they could, what did they do exactly? They could of sent a message through a speaker that they must go home immediantly. More lives could of been saved... Everybody I've talked to seems to agree with me. But it's still such a tragedy and you can't reverse what's happened. But they should still learn from this incident to take immediant action when a whole campus is in danger. They didn't know what to do, you can't really blame them for that. But now they should make a drill or something so another disaster can be prevented.

A message through a speaker? What speaker? Go home immediately? What if you are from across the country or another part of the world? Where are you supposed to go? Back to the dorms? How would that stop anything?
I don't think you understand the magnitude of a college campus, how big it is and how many people there are there, both from on campus and as commuter students. Some colleges have in excess of 40,000 people on them. You can't just inform 10,000 people about something that happened only minutes before unless you have access to a major news outlet, and even then, all they had to go on was heresay and conjecture. And what if people, like me, just walk to class without checking their email? What are you supposed to tell people? They assumed that this was an isolated incident and that the shooter had fled the campus, you know, like a normal killer would.
I'm sorry to say, there is no way to prevent this. This man was hellbent for election to kill a lot of people and nothing the campus security or staff could have done would have stopped him. There's no way to plan for this, no way to set up a drill for this, there's nothing you can do. You can't have a campus wide security drill because there are just too many students and staff. When you're dealing with a group of people the size of a small city, you can't control them all.
This was a horrible tragedy, but there was nothing that could have been done to stop it. If you need to fault someone other than the killer, fault the people who let this guy slip through the cracks. He should have been locked up years ago, but our society will not lock up the insane. So you end up with people like the Unibomber and now this guy. Sorry, no one on that campus was at fault except the killer himself.

Lil Muntewr it's not easy, there is about 7,000 people in the dorms and another 18,000 people coming from other areas It would be way too hard to do something like that.
Also there is another side to this and that is they after the first shooting Emily Hilscher (The first victim) Boyfriend was an avid gun owner so they suspected him and went looking for him. They found him leaving the campus and took him into custody and took him in for questioning, this all happened about 5min after the second shooting.
You can tell that they though they had already eliminated the threat and that's why they didn't act on it as much as everyone would like.

Besides, they shouldn't be wondering what happened between the two shootings in Virginia, they should be wondering what happened between Virrginia and Columbine; this is not a problem concerning of what campus authorities did but a problem concerning our current society. And some other, more mangeable problems too, of course.

I really think we should be more strict now, he was reported as being a stalker and having all these hate filled thoughts conveyed in his writings that he should have undergone serious mental analysis.
There are always warning signs in these cases, It's called The MacDonald triad, and they are:
1) Firestarting- invariably just for the thrill of destroying things.
2) Cruelty to animals- future serial killers often kill larger animals, like dogs and cats, and frequently for their solitary enjoyment rather than to impress peers.
3) Bedwetting beyond the age when children normally grow out of such behavior
Anyway The killer here was crazy, and may have had a brain tumor that hindered his judgment. They are looking at what is left to see if it's true.
Also is the new videos that have come out he says it's the rich kids to blame but he did not grow up poor but as middle class and he didn't target anyone but merely shot what ever was moving

I think this is terrible. Its not like its a first though and its definantly not going to be the last. Ever since columbine its been obvious it would come again. Many were prepared for another day like this. So instead of cursing and saying what people could of done, you should take account to the fact these people got to live for a period of time and probably had very good lives. Don't try to change the past because what happens was meant to happen all along. At least my friends and I believe your life was planned out the day you were born. The choices you make lead to the way you die wheter you are at fault, your friend,a disease, or even a gunman. Just remember, these people were probably great people. The most important thing is we won't forget and if there truly is a heaven we know they are there.
And the gunman? I think he just had some extreme emotional problems and its a shame. He was probably one of those guys who got picked on and used his whole life and decided, very irrationally, he should end his girlfriends life, the people around him, and his own. I just wish his parents would of realized before hand he needed some support which he obviously did not recieve.
My heart goes out to all those lost and my memory will never forget this tragic event.

Over in the US you have to be either 18 or 21 (Cho was 23) to be able to buy a gun, and that includes a 7 day waiting period where extensive back ground checks run and if any flags pop up you can't buy it.
Katrina is the best example as to why gun control is good. During that time people were running around stealing what they needed or wanted. During a time of crisis like that your government cannot act fast enough to help you.
It takes about 8mins for the police to get to your house and close to where I live there is a law saying that every head of the house hold has to have a gun. It is a small town but since that law was passed in 1982 the crime rate has decreased and there has only been 1 murder with a fire arm.
That is a a place with a relatively small population less then 20,000 but it still helps knowing everyone has a gun.

Cho was crazy to kill all those people. If you want people to like you, you have to be friends with them first! It's crazy just to hate people for something they didn't even do!Cho couldn't have been stopped and he can't be now because it's over with.If we could restart time which we can't sure we could maybe stop him but I doubt it.So let's just take this and think that life was set to be like this.We can't change not now...not ever.Maybe in the future when/if we have time machines we can go back in time and stop him but when we go back to the future probably everything will be changed.
