Here it is! The moment you've all been waiting for! The final instalment of Chapter 3!!!

They were about five minutes from Nome and it was dark. Balto’s feeling that something was wrong just turned into a monster. ‘I have to get home!’ He thought. ‘Jenna...please be OK!’ He could see the town now. He put on an extra boost of speed that made it hard for even Kodi to keep up—let alone the rest of the team.
When they got back to the post office, Balto wasted no time. As soon as he was unhooked he ran as fast as he could to Jenna’s house.
“Dad!” Kodi said. “Dad, wait!” He turned to Lumina. “Something’s wrong! Let’s follow him!” They took off after Balto.
Balto reached the house and went in through the doggie door.
“Jenna!” No answer. ‘Where could she be?’ He realized something, ‘The old mill!’ He ran out of the house just as Kodi and Lumina were coming through the gate.
“Dad! What’s going on!?” Kodi demanded, but Balto kept running. “C’mon!” He and Lumina pursued Balto once again.
‘I’ll explain later, Kodi—but I have to see your mother first!’
Balto burst into the old mill closely followed by Kodi and Lumina.
“Jen!?” He got an answer this time, but it wasn’t Jenna
“Balto!” Kaltag came running up to him. “Balto! Come quick!” He led Balto to the middle of the room where a pup—no more than ten months old lay shaking and crying.
“We found him like this in an alley. He keeps saying your name.” Star said. And, sure enough the pup was mumbling ‘Balto...Balto...must see...Balto.’
“Hey, kid...” Balto said. “I’m here. What is it?” The pup looked up.
“Bal—to?”
“Yeah,” Balto said, growing impatient. “What is it?” Balto must have said the magic words because the pup started talking so fast you could hardly understand him.
“In the alley...surrounded by wolves...dog named Steele...”
“WHAT!?!” Balto yelled so loud that the entire room was quiet enough you could hear Balto’s steadily increasing heart rate. “Steele...was...HERE!?” Balto lost it. He hit the pup on the side of the head and demanded he tell him everything. Nobody had ever seen Balto like this and was too afraid to do anything. “Why was Steele hear? Did he go to Jenna’s house? Come on, you little brat! WHAT HAPPENED?!?” The pup looked as if he’d been to Hell and back.
“Steele...took Jenna to...Sh-Shishmaref...Said he’d kill her...if you didn’t...Leave and never...Come back...” The pup passed out from being so frightened. Balto’s heart had been squeezed, twisted, and squashed. Silent tears rolled down his face as he staggered out of the mill. It was snowing hard now. Balto fell to his knees and threw up.
“JEEENNNAAA!!”

Watch out... insane Balto about...

Great!! Here's part one of Chapter 4

Chapter 4


Jenna woke up. She didn’t know where she was. She was in a cave, but it wasn’t the one she had stayed in last night.
‘Last night...’ She thought as she recalled what she and Steele had done the night before. ‘No...not what Steele and I did—what Steele did...He did it...he made me betray Balto...’ She burst into tears.
“Oh, Balto!” she said aloud. “I’m so...sorry!” She was crying harder than she’d ever cried before. ‘How am I going to tell him what I—Steele did?’ She lay there for what seemed like hours. She cried and thought of Balto. ‘Balto...’
Suddenly, a shadow appeared over her. At first she feared the worst; but when she tuned around she saw not Steele, but Sarafina.
“What do you want?” Jenna asked, in a voice that was barely a whisper.
“I came to give you your food.” Sarafina replied. Jenna had thought she would get scraps again (though she never had the chance to eat the other scraps), but Sarafina laid down a big piece of meat in front of her. Jenna looked at her, confused.
“Th—Thank-you.”
“Jenna...that’s your name, right?” Jenna nodded. “Well, I came to say sorry...for what Steele did. If I had known that’s what he was going to do then I would have at least tried to talk him out of it.” Jenna was taken completely by surprise.
“Thank-you...” she didn’t know what else to say except, “Why are you being so nice to me?”
“I might tell you sometime...If you live long enough.” Jenna should have been frightened by Sarafina’s last comment, but she knew that’s probably what was going to happen eventually.
“Well,” she said feeling somewhat better, “How about now? It’s not like I’ve got anything else to do...” Sarafina looked at Jenna quizzically for a moment, as if trying to decide what to do.
“Alright, then.” She said. “It started last winter...”

Sarafina was out hunting alone. The pack, as small as it was, needed food for the pups. She spotted an elk about fifty yards away. She stayed low and silently made her way through the brush. She was about five yards away from it now. ‘That’s a pretty big elk.’ She thought. ‘this would feed the pups for while.’ The elk was completely taken by surprise when Sarafina jumped up and clamped her jaws around its throat. The last thing it ever saw was a mouth full of deadly teeth and two bloodthirsty eyes—then blackness. She howled to signal her accomplishment and within a few minutes, three wolves appeared to help her bring her prize back to the cave.
“Hey, that’s a nice catch, Sara!” One of the wolves said.
“Yeah, we’re not going to have to hunt for a while now.” Another added. However, it was the third wolf that Sarafina wanted to see.
“Hi, Sara.” The third wolf said as he nuzzled her. “This is probably the biggest elk I’ve seen in a while.” This third wolf’s name was Lakota and was Sarafina’s new mate.
“Thanks, Kota.” Sarafina nuzzled him back. “Let’s get this thing back to the pack. I’ll bet everyone’s hungry.” The four wolves managed to haul the enormous animal back to the cave in about forty-five minutes. They were welcomed gracefully by their leader, Shuziku.
“My goodness! That’s got to be the biggest elk I’ve ever seen! Who’s responsible for it then?”
“That would be Sara, of course.” Lokota said. “She’s only the best hunter in the packlands.”
“I should’ve guessed. Well done, Sarafina. We are greatly in debt to you. Now, let’s get this thing inside and have a nice meal for once!”

That night when everyone had gone to sleep, Sarafina was on guard with Lakota. They were sitting together outside the cave talking.
“You know, Sara...I was thinking...We’ve been together for a few weeks now and...well our pack’s kinda small—“
“Kota, are you suggesting that we...” Sarafina was overjoyed.
“Well...I think it’s time we started our own family.”
“Oh, Kota.” Sarafina was crying tears of joy. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Lakota was happy that Sara had taken this so well. “Now, about that whole ‘starting a family’ business...” Sarafina smiled at Lokota. That night would be the best...and the most horrifying night of her life.

Chapter 4~Conclusion

Jenna was wondering what Sarafina meant by ‘best and most horrifying night’.
“What happened next?” She asked.
“When we woke up the next morning, we were surrounded by a group of stray dogs and some wolves we had never seen before. They had...” a single tear rolled down her cheek as she continued. “They had killed all the pups and threatened to do the same to all who refused to join their pack. Lakota...he would never stand for something like that. He was so brave. He was the first and last to disobey our captors.” Sarafina stopped talking as more tears rolled down her cheeks. The realization of what had happened to Lakota hit Jenna.
“I’m so sorry...”
“It’s fine...I’m OK.” Sarafina said.
“What about your family?” Sarafina shook her head.
“I didn’t get pregnant. And even if I did, Steele would kill the pups as soon as he found out anyway.” Suddenly, there was the sound of pawsteps getting closer. Sarafina quickly got up and dried her tears.
“You’re lucky you get that much.” She said harshly, kicking the piece of meat that lay on the floor. Jenna knew she was acting. “It’s only because I feel sorry for you, you little—“
“There will be none of that, Sarafina.” Steele had arrived in the chamber. Jenna had hoped it wasn’t he who was approaching. “Now, I would like to talk to Jenna alone.” Sarafina began to leave but before she disappeared into the next chamber she mouthed a silent ‘Thank-you’ to Jenna.
“Now that we’re alone...” Steele began. “I’ve something planned for you. You see, I met a pup while I was in Nome. I told him to tell your precious Balto to leave and never come back or I would kill you. I also let it slip that I was hiding near Shishmaref. Of course, this is just to lure him here so I can have my revenge. He took my whole life away from me. So I’m going to return the favor.” Jenna looked Steele strait in the eyes. Sarafina’s story had somehow strengthened her spirit.
“I will never help you do anything as long as live.” Jenna said with pure hatred for Steele.
“That might not be very long, Jenna!” He said with rage. “Why don’t you sleep on my offer. We’ll see how you feel about it then!” Without warning Steele turned and hit Jenna against the cave wall. Jenna saw his paw and then went into peaceful darkness.

One thing: At the top of Chapter Two you wrote (first half).
Doesn't that mean there's a second half before CH 3? Or are you just going to chapter 3? Just curious.

Can't wait for the next part.
....And I've got my rifle ready just in case Steele gets....overconfident.

Whoa....was that me? Sorry, I kinda rambled there, but this is a truely awesoe piece of work! I really like Sarafina's story.

Chapter 5 is on the way!

Chapter 5 is done (i think---it could be a little longer)

Chapter 5


Kodi and Lumina ran outside to help Balto.
“Dad! Kodi said as tears flooded his eyes. “What were they talking about who is...Dad?” Balto was unconscious. “DAD! Lumina, help me get him inside!” Lumen was too confused for words. She just did what Kodi said without question. They laid him on a soft blanket.
“Is he OK?” Kaltag asked. Balto opened his eyes and saw everyone standing around him. Then, his vision went blurry and he fell asleep.
“I think he’ll be fine.” Kodi said. “Now, Lumina and I are going to stay here with my dad tonight and it’s getting late. So, everyone go home for now. We need some rest.” There was no answer...just a scramble of dogs trying to get out of the mill.
“K-Kodi?” Lumina said, a tear rolling down her face. “What’s going on? Who’s this Steele guy?”
Kodi looked at her and started to cry. “I-I don’t know. Mom and dad never mentioned him.” Kodi looked up suddenly. His eyes were like fire. “But he’s got Mom...He won’t get away with it.”
“Let’s get some rest Kodi.” Said Lumina.
“Yeah...OK.” Kodi laid down next to Balto and closed his eyes. Lumina laid her head on top of Kodi’s and fell asleep. Kodi smiled a little and then drifted off into the land of dreams...

Balto woke up the next morning at about the same time Kodi did. At first he couldn’t remember what had happened the night before, but the horrifying words of the frightened pup slowly crept back into his mind.
‘Jen...’ he thought as tears welled up in his eyes. ‘Jen—I’ll bring you home...I promise.’ He heard Kodi behind him.
“Dad...how are you feeling?” Kodi asked worriedly.
“I’ve been better.” Balto said, not really paying attention to what he was saying. He could only think of Jenna.
Kodi sighed. “Dad...who’s Steele?” Balto came out of his trance at the mention of Steele. There were no longer tears in his eyes. Instead there was the cold flame of hatred...burning...fueled by malice.
“Steele...” He growled. “Steele was...Kodi it’s a long story and—“
“I don’t care how long the story is!” Kodi interrupted. “Who is he?” Lumina came and out a paw on Kodi’s shoulder.
“Kodi...He doesn’t have to—“
“No...Kodi’s right.” Balto said, somewhat calmer than he had been just a moment ago. “You need to know...” Balto took a deep breath and began to relate his story.
“About three years ago there was a terrible sickness that swept through Nome. I lived in the old shipyard then and I barely knew your mom. I had just met her and I really liked her...but I’m half wolf so I wasn’t exactly everyone’s favorite. No...that was Steele. He liked Jenna when she first moved to town, but only because she was pretty. He was the center of attention—the pride of the town. Everybody wanted to be his friend. But he wasn’t as cool as everyone thought. He was always picking on me and beating me whenever he got the chance. Since everyone did what Steele did, he managed to turn the whole town against me. Jen was the only one who stood up for me. She was my only friend in Nome (besides Boris, Muk, and Luk). One night I saw her looking in the window of the emergency hospital. I walked up to her and looked in as well. Rosie, Jenna’s owner, was very sick. We couldn’t Hear what the doctor was saying so I led her to a room under the clinic. We heard the doctor say that he needed more medicine. We were coming outside when Steele saw me with Jenna. He looked like he was going to murder me...But instead he threw some sausages in front of me and started barking. The humans in the butcher shop chased me away. I was so mad at Steele. I wanted to get him back. Lucky for me there was a race that would determine the lead dog for the team that would bring more medicine to Nome. Steele was winning, but I passed him and came in first. However, the mushers chased me away again because I was part wolf. No matter what I did Steele always won.”
“So you had a grudge against Steele, why does he want to hurt Mom.” Kodi asked, confused. Lumina just stayed quiet and listened.
“I’m getting to that.” Balto reassured Kodi. “Anyway...When the team was bringing back the medicine, there was a monster of a blizzard. I had to find them or lots of people would’ve died. Part of the reason I went out, though, was to impress Jenna. I was on their trail when a bear attacked me. It almost had me, but Jenna saved me and helped me Bring it out onto the frozen river. It feel through, but I went with it.”
“Dad...” Kodi said, growing more impatient. “I’ve heard this a million times! Muk and Luk saved you and Mom gave you her bandana for good luck.” Balto sighed.
“Kodi, there’s a reason I’m telling you this part. Just let me tell the story.” Kodi sat quietly and Balto continued. “Yes, Jen gave me her Bandana. I found the team one night. The musher was hurt and the team was stranded. When I tried to help, Steele attacked me. I went over the cliff that we were on and everyone thought I was dead. But, seeing as how I’m not dead, I climbed up again to see the team waiting for me. Steele was gone so it was up to me to lead them. I had marked the trail back to Nome, but Steele went ahead of us and led us on a false trail. We finally managed to get back to Nome and deliver the medicine. Jenna was waiting there for me. She told me Steele had come back and said that I was dead and so was the team. She believed him because when I had fallen off the cliff Steele took the bandana and brought it back.” Kodi stared at Balto in shock.
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
“I didn’t want Steele in any part of my children’s lives, but I guess that doesn’t matter anymore.”

“We? You mean...No! It’s too dangerous. I—I don’t know what I’d do if you were hurt.” Lumina smiled at Kodi.
“Kodi, you can’t stop me. I don’t have a home and you and your dad are the closest thing to family I have...and family sticks together.” Kodi thought for a moment, then smiled.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” His face turned serious again. “But any sign of trouble, you run...got it?” Lumina was about to protest, but Kodi cut her off. “Promise me, Lumina.”
“Yeah, OK.”
“Sorry to interrupt,” Balto said, “but we need to get going. If Steele has control of a whole pack then we’re going to need reinforcements.” Kodi and Lumina looked confused.
“Where can we get enough dogs to go up against a pack?” Kodi asked.
“Not dogs...” Balto said with a grin. “Wolves!”
