Hmmm, there are a lot of animated dog movies out there, and to only choose three is a challenge!
1) - The Balto Trilogy: This is a definite choice (and no, it's not just because this is a Balto forum. Gawd, that's a stupid reason to choose it for your list.). Unlike other talking dog movies, the first Balto is inspired by the true story of a dog that did the impossible to save the town that he so dearly loves. The sequels, although they each have their hits and misses, continue the fictional wolf-dog's journey into fatherhood and the qualities about him that make him so unique and special (his wolf heritage, his loyalty and reliability as a sled dog).
2) - Lady and the Tramp: "Disney's happiest movie . . ." The tale of two different canines - one having high-class breeding and manners significant of Snob Hill, the other being a mutt from the wrong side of the tracks . . . literally! - who meet and within the course of one magical night, fall in love. A classic tale of the life of two dogs . . . and the people that they encounter.
3) - All Dogs Go To Heaven: If ADGTH were about humans, it would still work just as well the other way around . . . IMO, anyway. I love this film so much! A dog from the wrong side of the bayou gets taken for a ride into the pearly gates of Heaven, only to escape back to Earth and into the life of an adorable little orphan who only wishes for a family of her own. This is a truly heart-wrenching and very memorable film! Watch this one instead of the not-as-appealing sequel that soon followed.
That's my list. There are lots more animated dog films out there too, but IMO, not all of them are as classic and wonderful as my choices.
