What things seem TOO similar to Kay's comics?
I don't want to offend you, but I myself am seeing a large Swiftkill (the character, not the plot) influence. If you don't mind, I'll go ahead an point out why I
think people are seeing similarities.
Swiftspeed:
Swiftkill:
(Swiftkill image from
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/20496855/?qo=59&q=by%3Akayfedewa&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps, copyright Kay of course. The above image is being used for comparison only.)
Looking at these two, I think it's mainly the facial markings, headfur (spikes on the top of the head), and style that make people think that Swiftspeed's design was influenced by Swiftkill (again, no offense intended, but I have to agree). In addition, war paint/tattoos are also a common thing with people working on their own wolf comic who are taking heavy influence from Kay's work (minus characters created for RP on her board), so that helps to further make people suspicious of your character's design. Also, I know you've said that you thought up the name a long time ago, and the name by itself without the design added is perfectly fine, but with the visual closeness of these two,
Swiftspeed compared to
Swiftkill make it appear that you have used Kay's character as a base for your design.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with this in terms of copyright and other legal terms, so it all comes down to common courtesy. Honestly, I think that you should ask Kay about the design. Worst case scenario, an artist will say "no" and leave it at that when you ask about such a thing. Others are okay with it so long as you credit them. However,
all of them get agitated when you simply
don't ask, even if they don't show it. So, maybe drop Kay a line and ask permission:)?
All in all, I would like to add that having read your plot, your comic sounds very awesome! Just tweak the character design here a bit, and you should be all set to go^^.

I think that its like Kays comics like how the Alpha dies and the name
I do agree with the name thing (and again, only because of the design similarities), but as for the whole alpha dying subject, that is a
very common thing to do in movies/stories/comic outside of The BBA and DA, and not just in wolf-related material. Heck, look at the Lion King! While it might seem overdone, it is used because, as with real life creatures looking to leaders for survival, the death of an alpha throws everything out of whack for a pack, therefore causing chaos and a reason for war, etc. This can even be seen in everyday conflicts and wars *cough*Dubbuya!*cough*.
Hopefully I made sense there...
