I know, and even when the kid DOES admit to hitting the dog, the parents say stupid crap like 'oh but he didn't know! he's only 5!' A 5 year old is old enough to know not to hit or bug a dog..

I know! It's so unfair. :(

Even my five-year-old cousin yelled at my 11-year-old sister for pulling on Archie's tail. She told her (and I was seriously amazed by this) that "His tail is connected to his spine and you could paralyze him!".

Pitt Bulls were originaly trained to NEVER bite their masters or any other humans. They were trained to attack and fight with other dogs. In those times, masters were actually able to pull their Pitt Bulls off of each other without the risk of being bitten. So in theory we screwed these dogs up by training them to become aggressive to humans.

I beleive Pitt Bulls are wonderful dog, just as good as any dog.

I don't understand why people say pit bulls have locking jaws. They DON'T, neither do they have "1600 psi biting pressure". Who came up with that? It's not true.

Any dog, just like the American Pit Bull Terrier [APBT], may attack. ANY breed may attack. Pfft, I was nearly attacked by a Golden/Lab mix, and nearly bit by a Labrador Retriever. Though, I seen many trained and "nice" ones, and that goes for pit bulls. Though, I haven't seen an agressive one yet. I seen one on the streets, who just came up to me, rubbing againest me and rolling on her back, wanting a belly rub. Was a sweet little girl, who followed me everywhere, though I never found her owner. And no, I didn't take her in, because my brother's dog who lives here hates other dogs, unless he was with them as a pup.

I don't understand how people think EVERY pit bull, or any other misunderstood dog breed is bad. I mean, my friend told me she was walking her German Shepherd Dog in the petstore, and someone walked their kid out the store, and they said: "Don't look at him in the eye, he gets mean." And someone else said: "Don't go to that dog, you are his lunch." Oh, that's nice to make your child scared of dogs, and plus - Not only is he the sweetest little thing ever, but he has such a goofy look on his face. How could anyone be scared of him? He is working/german lines, I believe, and he looks such like a goof-ball.

Ok, I am getting a bit off topic. Bunny, this is a topic about PIT BULLS, not GSD's or rotties. xD OOok, anyways..

People are just dumb. Nuff' said. They don't know a dog, until they meet em.

I have no problem with Pitbulls. Sure, I'm careful around them, but you should be careful around any kind of dogs you don't know. It all depends on how the dog is raised. If they are abused, trained to fight, or neglected, the dogs probably going to be agressive. Usually, dogs don't randomly attack things. They are either provoked, or taughnted, or scared.

Pitbulls have gotten a bad rep. for all the attacks. Surely they aren't the only breed that has bittin a human. Maybe people only report pitbull attacks so they can sew....what greedy people :x

There are so many people who know that any breed can attack... yet so many that are convinced a Pit Bull is mean... it's heart-breaking. :(

No 45 years ago they were just like any other dog but someone had to go and ruin it by breeding them to fight

I think she means that if people didn't breed them to fight in the first place, then people wouldn't be calling them evil today.

Am I right?

Oh, and just before anyone says that pit bulls are born 'mean' is just wrong. There is no aggressive gene.... Breed two very aggressive, fighting, or whatever dogs and you could get very friendly dogs. Just thought I'd say that, before anyone posts that Pit bulls are born that way. e_e

I went to London today and whilst walking down Oxford Street I saw a really sweet-looking Pit Bull. I'm pretty sure he was a Pit as he had longer legs than a Staffy and had that general 'look' about him. He kept wagging his tail and trying to sniff my ankles as I walked down the street as there were so many people that we were all really close anyway. Then, the owner went on ahead to meet this woman who had two puppies.. both looked again like Pittys. They were so cute and were smothering the guy in licks.

It's a such a shame that this breed is so hated when they're just so sweet.

First off, most people don't even have any idea of what a "pit bull" really is. There's no such thing as a single breed called a pit bull; the dog could be a bull terrier, American bulldog, Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire bull terrier, English bulldog or any other breed that was ever used for fighting. Even the little black and white Boston terriers could be easily classified as pit bulls. If someone accuses a "pit bull" of being vicious they are accusing all bully breeds, even those breeds who have never been known to attack anything less than a squeeky toy.

Secondly, no dog is born a human killer. It's genetically impossible. Try as you might, you'll never find a gene for "child eater". Though some breeds have dominant tendancies, you'll NEVER find a dominant dog that cannot be controled without proper upbringing...I guarantee. A dog's behavior is molded by genes and environment. If there's no possible way for a dog to enherit vicious behavior, it has to stem from the environment in which it was raised. Articles about pit bull attacks always beat to death the fact that the attacking dog or dogs were very well cared for, a part of the family. Anyone who's dog ever attacks someone is obviously not aware of what a truely dominant dog really is or how to raise one. A dominant dog is not always lunging at people's necks; it's the dog that spends most of its time on its own, the dog that is always jumping up or putting its paws on people's shoulders, the dog that is always mounting things, the dog that gets its owners to do whatever it wants whenever it wants. Letting a dog get away with these seemingly insignificant behaviors creates a monster. But what's worse, its a monster that can show no signs of being a monster until that fatal moment when it is in a situation where all that aggression boiling up finally releases itself, triggered by almost anything. People don't understand, either, that just teaching a dog commands is not going to stunt dominant tendancies. A dominant dog owner must be VERY knowledgeable about these behaviors and know exactly how to stop them. This is why the casual dog owner should not own breeds known to be dominant. They may think a large breed putting its paws on their shoulders is a cute "hug", but in reality a dog translates it as "Okay, I'm letting you do this. You must be the boss." This kind of thing can happen with absolutely ANY dog that is allowed to, no matter what breed. It isn't that bully breeds are naturally aggressive, its just in their terrier natures to test the waters if left to their own devices without early intervention and a competant owner.

I wish ignorant people would try to understand WHY these dogs attack and why it makes no sense to judge any dog based on the way it looks instead of focusing on the "gory, shock factor" as portrayed by the media. I love love love bully breeds(AmStaffs especially) and seeing them being attacked like they are just makes me sick. :(

I'm aware of that, but since in the newspapers it says nothing more then 'pitbull attack' we couldn't tell which breed of dog it was unless there were pictures.

A pit bull is a stocky, large breed that is in many cases used in dog fighting.

The American Pit Bull Terrier, is mainly the dog that is hated, though many other breeds are unrespected. Even The German Shepherd Dog is unrespected, or well, people are scared of them. I had a few people that was scared of my chow chow mix, who is pretty small, and he has that "pity" look. He don't have that "mean" look, though you can clearly tell he's chow chow.

I don't understand why people think all these dogs are bad. Do they even RESEARCH that dog breed? It's sad. People are always like: "Ooo, mean dog" to my friend's GSD, even though he is a sweetie pie. Did they even MEET the dog? No, just one look, then all the sudden he's "bad". Just because of his breed, even though, they didn't take their time to meet the dog. They didn't even ask his owner about em. It's just one look, then he's bad. -.-

I don't care, because once I get my dog, then people can be scared. Whatever. Atleast I know my dog's good. It's sad that dogs have to suffer, just because of a few people.
