"Whole Lot Better" by 707. I thought it was kinda sappy at first but the power ballad grew on me and now I like it. Very obscure and touching 80's rock song. Here's a sample:

"Love Goes Down" by Brother Firetribe's also a great sad song and so is "Carrie" by Europe.

Michael Kamen is a GENIUS in my opinion! I love all of his work. He did a WHOLE live show with Metallica a few years back and was also instrumental in the orchestral parts on Rush's Counterparts record. not to mention the emotion his work always gave off. he will be missed for a looong time to come for me. as tragically he passed away in 2000.. But I will ALWAYS love his work.

Alright as for the original topic..

1.) Disappear - Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence - Lyrics Below - This song reminds me lot of my grandmother whom I still deeply miss and I can't help but break down at the chorus to this song every single time I first hear it.. and actually I'm getting a little emotional writing about this as it's still all so hard to believe... you will always be in my thoughts.

2.) Anna Lee - Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity - Lyrics Below - This song is one of the deepest songs I've ever heard and you just can't help feeling sorry for this poor kid that James LaBrie wrote the song about. I think this guy has a lot of soul and compassion to write songs like this and I just want to commend you for this James.. thanks!

3.) Take Away My Pain - Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity - Lyrics Below - I can also relate to this song in the same way as the first because It reminds me of fallen friends and family and that's just hard to get by without a little emotion. beautiful song, great vocals and a nice deep percussion arrangment do all along with the lyrics and I hate it for JP because the year he wrote this in (1997) he lost three family members including his father whom this song is dedicated to.. I'm gonna stop here before I finally break down and everything. I know you all can probably understand though...

Ok…there’s the top 30 most sad/beautiful songs I know. There are plenty more. Some by the same artists. Enjoy—with plenty of Kleenex on hand!

And when you’re done here are some more that might have the same effect on you that they do me. If not exactly sad, they all are so beautiful they can make you cry:

Hallelujah-Rufus Wainwright: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zIJcPlML5lw
How do I Live Without You-LeAnn Rimes: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JQYtKyp-jYw

I agree that I love the following:
Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House; Kiss From a Rose (which is by Seal, btw Dorcia); Photograph by Nickelback; God Help the Outcasts from THOND; and What If God Was One of Us.

But WAIT! I’ve thought of even more. I wasn’t even going to touch more songs from movies and such, because there are just too many…but it’s worth mentioning…

-Memory from Cats: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sBWK9bkACI (Just listened; gave me chills and I nearly cried.)
-No One Is Alone from Into the Woods: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1bFppZB9Hk
-Martina McBridge’s “In My Daughter’s Eyes” & Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You” and “Ordinary Miracle.”
-"Billy Don't Be a Hero," "Nights in White Satin"....
-“When She Loved Me” from Toy Story 2 (plus the sad songs of every other animated film—"Soon You'll Come Home" from ADGTH & “I Will Always Be With You” [ADGTH2]; “Angels in Disguise” by Sheena Easton from Shiloh, and her “A Dream Worth Keeping” from Fern Gully; Robyn Starling’s song from The Tom & Jerry Movie, “Goodbye May Seem Forever” from TFATH, “Part of Your World,” “Baby Mine” from Dumbo, “So Long Old Friend” from some Garfield & Friends episode…and yeah, I’m sure you can think of all the others. The sad songs expert is done making you sob now.

I'd never heard the seal song, but it is beautiful.

I think I've seen "Fight We Shall" before, and I ADORE it, despite it being so very sad. At the same time it's deeply moving and speaks only truth. Good one. I think everyone in the world should have to hear that song...why we don't realize all of the things it says on our own, I don't understand, it should be plenty obvious how unforgiveably cruel we are to animals...but I don't want to imagine a person who wouldn't be touched by those lyrics. Who can deny them?

Oh, I was gonna add in Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven," but it's been said. ~^
