Anyone else here think that Will Farrell isn't particularly funny? Most of my friends think he is absolutly a comic genius, and frankly, I just don't see it. I've seen a few of his movies, and I find his characters to be so completely asinine and ignorant that I literally am angry by the time the movie is over.
Talledega Nights- Why am I the only person on the planet who thought this movie wasn't good? All we got was Farrell, that perpetual one trick pony, acting goofy and spouting an annoying catchphrase (SHAKE N" BAKE!). Where's the laughter? What's funny about baby Jesus? I swear, the most repeated phrase from that movie was the part about praying to baby Jesus. That doesn't even make any sense. It's not funny, it's ludicrous and inane. Then we have the awesome juggernaut of humor, a homosexual, french, Forumla 1 racer who's main draw is that he pronounces Ricky Bobby's name 'Ricky Booby'. What am I, five years old? "Tee hee hee, he said 'booby'!" How is that even slightly funny? I think when I saw it in theaters (against my own better judgement) I came up with maybe one minor chuckle.
Elf- Dear, God. This was, without a doubt, the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life. This made Little Nicky and other Adam Sandler dreck look like Marx brothers comedy classics by comparison. The worst part was, my ex-girlfriends family, with whom I watched it, thought it was hysterical. I was in shock; my eyes glazed over. Again, all we get is Farrell acting silly and annoying the blue hell out of everyone around him. I mean, really, has Farrell got no shame at all? "Oh look, he doesn't know how to answer a telephone! Now he's singing in a store! Now he's running into traffic!" His character was so vastly and intensely annoying to me that I was actually angered by the movie. When it ended, I was seriously in a state of high piss-off. It literally took me minutes to calm down, I was so annoyed and insulted.
The worst part for me is, everyone worships this guy as a comedy legend, like he does something special. All he does is run around doing a goofy voice and falling down. I swear before God and his angels that I could do Farrell job at least as well as he can. When I tell people that I don't like him, people say, "Hrry, have you watched his stuff from Saturday Night Live? It's funny!" And I say, "No, it isn't funny".
Whether it's Farrell himself, his director, or his writers, someone has to tell him to cut the schtick at some point. This is exactly why Ace Ventura was so hard for me to watch, when I actually liked things like Liar, Liar and Bruce Almighty. At some point, the actor has to show at least a shred of intelligence amidst all the mugging. There has to be at least a scrap of a brain buried in the character, or I simply become insulted by the character. I don't know, am I the only one who thinks this way?
Oh, and if by chance you think that Farrell is simply the greatest actor since Clark Gabel, you don't really need to bite my head off. I wasn't trying to insult your taste in movies. But go ahead and tell me what you see in him that makes him so gosh darn funny.
I am so happy to find someone who dislikes this moron as much as I do. I find him annoying and extremely unfunny. I think the guy who "discovered" him should be fired, rehired, slapped, and then fired again. Thank you for surfacing his idiocy
