I know I'm going to get my butt trounced on this one, but here goes. Try to show me at least a modicum of respect.
*Deep breath* I don't find anything especially disturbing about taxidermy. I don't find anything especially disturbing about this wolf-skin rug. Sorry, guys. Now, before we all flip out and call me all sorts of untrue names, we don't know how this wolf died (perhaps in captivity?) or the story behind it. Also, I'm not sure, but if it were something killed by poaching, I would hazard to say that they would be reluctant to post it on a place as public as Ebay. I'm not sure of the laws regarding wolf-hunting in Canada, but if I'm not mistaken, in the US it is illegal to hunt wolves (this may or may not be true, I don't feel like looking it up in the Montana or Alaska penal code right now, but for some reason it comes to mind that you can't hunt them). However, if this were hunted legally, then it is entirely within the bounds of the law to make it into a rug. Would I like such a grizzly totem in my house? I don't know, I don't think it would match right (just kidding).
All this being said, I would probably have a difficult time shooting a wolf. I don't think I'd particularly enjoy skinning it either, I'm rather squeamish about such things. However, I don't think that we ought to prohibit those people who enjoy hunting legally, and within the bounds of reason, from doing so. People who engage in taxidermy are also free to ply their trades, as far as I'm concerned. If I had a hunting lodge or something of that type, I might be interested in such a rug. I think I might stop short of using it as a comforter for my bed however.
I'm sure that you'll all have wonderful things to say about me now. Please be nice.

There. I agree, and don't feel bad. People shouldn't(Hopefully) say anything rude about your post. Their allowed to say what they want, and so, you should be happily allowed with this post WITHOUT getting bashed. *eyes the people*

Oh, and I don't have a real wolf fur coat, if you thought I did.

If you really wanted them to see the error of their ways, then you'd need a long and well thought-out speech. Think about it, some people hunt and make rugs like this for a living. They can't be punished for that. Speech? Oh, show me anyone who did bad things and then he suddenly turned to the "light side" after hearing a well thought-out speech as you say. It`s almost that rare like white crows...
I wasn't being realistic, I was just trying to show how hard it is to convince them...

Just because some people have differing opinions with you, doesn't mean they'll kill you on the spot (at least the mature ones won't ). Anyway, you do put out a good point since hunting can be a part of someone's life, like taxidermy or working in a hunting lodge. I for one wouldn't be the person to kill a wolf and turn it into a rug either, but others are, and that can be what they do to live.
Although, I am against poaching and/or hunting for means other tha food, but that's just me.
By the way, I think it is legal to hunt wolves in Alaska (only a certain amount per year), but I'm not sure about Montana.

I was thinking about this..and I'm going to have to agree with you, at fort white they have stuffed wolf skin and they're BEAUTIFUL! There also the closest thing to a wolf that I've ever seen. But, if I were to wake up everyday and see a dead wolf on my floor, I think I would have a heart attack. I'm very squemish..

If the wolf had been KILLED whilst in good health for the fur, then anyone who was to bid on it would have been a cruel, sick person. However, if it had died naturally and the fur was then sold, then things would be different.
Like Chasity, I'd probably have a heart-attack if I woke up with a wolf skin on the floor. I love the feel of a husky's fur and I'd imagine a wolf's to be similar.

Yes, if they shot the wolf then that's just plain wrong, I'm sure there's a billion other ways to make money..
A wolf's fur is a little more course and rough..

I'm almost 100% positive on this.... Alaska I know for sure that wolf hunting is legal yet again.. It's been in and out of the legislature and right now it is legal in the state of Alaska. As for Montana.. it is illegal to shoot (hunt) a wolf in the continental 48 states, Montana included. They are still considered an endangered species in the continental 48 United States that being why the law protecting the wolves is in place.

The reason for my timidity when posting, and admonishments for respect were driven in particularly by the disrespect I've received on other site and even in real life when this topic comes up. I've had people call me a "murderer" even though I've never shot any animal in my life. I've had people call me an idiot, even though I and most other people I know will agree I am not. I even had one person call me a fascist, even though this topic has very little to do with my political beliefs.
However, I was pleasantly suprised by the responces I got, even if they were not in agreement with me. I must say, from the name of the topic and the way people were howling (no pun intended) out names toward the hunter of that wolf, I thought there would be more of the same. However, I can see that at least the majority of people here have some maturity about them. Thank you, that is a breath of fresh air online, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Most of the members here wont flame you for something like that, but if they do, it's usually the younger ones who have no idea what they're talking about. I try to avoid flame wars by agreeing with everyone on some point.
In Winnipeg, it's not illegal to hunt bears or dears, so I doubt it would be for wolves.
