Got that game! Love that game!
I beat it in 30 hours and something minutes and I loved every second of it, the second time I beat it I did it in 29 hours something and I'm half-way through my 3rd go round.
Amaterasu is awesome and the way it's designed is amazing and I just love the style of the game too, best game I ever bought!!!

Finally beat the game for the first time. Since I hate using strategy guides I worked completely on my own, hence taking much longer....
Time: 74 hours, 51 minutes, 49 seconds
Days Passed Ingame: 102
Saves: 42
Enemies Killed: 6,829
Demon Fangs: 912
Praise Collected: 6,408
Yen Collected: 7,459,672
Stray Beads Collected: 100
Ranking: S
Edit: And forgot to add; Off to Round 2!
Hopefully this will run by faster now I don't have to look for Stray Beads, because not all of them were very fun to find.

Yeah, I saw it in game stop. I was browsing the shelves for some *coughs* Cabela's games for PS2 *coughs* Don't kill me. X3 And I spotted the game, and picked it up. I was going to buy it and then my dad said I had to leave. =]

It's not done 'comic book' style, but more of a traditional Japanese-influenced style of painting- similar to that of scroll paintings and images with vivid scenery and wild and sometimes abrasive brush strokes. You be thinking more of Viewtiful Joe if you were thinking along the lines of comic style artwork. (made both by the same company so there may seem little difference)

All that is a major plot point that you should get by now. Issun should tell you how come but I'll tell you anyways:
The Gods get a majority of their strength from the amount of people that believe in them. At the time when the game starts very few people actually believe in the Gods, thus weakening them.
The people that you encounter in-game can't see the red marks or the 'divine instrument(s)' that you (Amaterasu) carry because the power of the Gods is so weak.
Use up all your ink pots and Amaterasu will lose her red marks and divine instrument until the pots refill themselves. This temporary form of Ammy is the form that everyone in the world sees of Ammy (aside from selected individuals).
