Gang...gang...

...there's not snow on the ground in a large portion of Alaska throughout the entire year, you know. In fact, Nome itself has very snow and ice-free periods in the late spring through mid fall! They are only 150 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and yet they can get rain and sun and clear, relatively warm weather (60 degrees Fahrenheit, if you want to know). The Seward Peninsula gets quite green during the late spring and summer.

What IS inaccurate about Balto 2 (and even Balto and Balto 3) is the kind of flora and environment seen in the movies. Most of the Seward Peninsula (upon which Nome sits) is open, rolling tundra...scrub brush and grass growing out of a layer of earth, underneath which sits a layer of permafrost and then more earth below that. There is very little forest to speak of on the Seward Peninsula, and no roaring rapids that I've ever heard of. Possibly some waterfalls maybe. But great forests and grand waterfalls with raging rapids? Unlikely in the extreme...and both the historical evidence, and modern topographical maps and photos do not bear it out.

Well, whoever says that movies have to be realistic? I think few movies pay attention to that kind of detail thinking that people like us who notice those inconsistencies (sp?) don't exist...

Well, yeah. I always thought it took place during the summer so I didn't argue about it.

Well, in Balto 3 it was spring and at the last scene in Balto 3 there is no snow if I remember, Wolf quest has no snow because it's summer not spring.

It's probably spring time or summer during the movie but comparing the weather Wolf quest happened then Wings of Change came in the next ear.

I think the producers wanted to characterize what Nome and other parts of Alaska would look like in the summer time so people wouldn't think of it as just a barren frozen tundra (In some parts of Alaska it can actually get up to 70 degrees in the summer!)

Yup spring, during the 1920's it was still early for Global Warming.
