Well, I guess more different can make everything looks good after all. Fat or thin, it's up to animators.

Caramello wrote: Well, like Rebel said, pretty much all of the background dogs in Balto 1 were chubby. It actually kinda bothered me; if having fat dogs was to add diversity to the characters, then why are there so many of them? There's one "poofy" husky (Jenna), one muscular (Steele) one "normal" (Kaltag) one small and scrawny (Star) and all the others were fat. That's why I liked the way Balto and Aleu looked, they had a more realistic look - plus I love their big paws xD But I don't mind having one fat dog in a group of three, like with Nikki, Kaltag and Star. They all looked very different, and I'm very paranoid about characters looking different
Amen to that! XD ^^

I think that it's just the way animators made them, Nobdy is perfect ya know? And i'm not to big of a Ralph and Kirby fan. I'm more a Kodi fan! and Alue!

They eat to much or genetics. either one . I think Kirby's kinda cute with that round face.

have you ever noticed that nearly in each cartoon where animals are involved there's always a very big and fat one and an anorexic one?

Ralph is fatter he eats more and Kirby doesn't cause Kirby looks sexy that way and Ralph looks funny and fat so thats why it doesn't matter.

Or, the answer may be a lot simpler and more direct than it is being made out to be. Thus: Breeds.
There's no law stating that they have to be malamutes or huskies (An aside: Shouldn't all the huskies have heavy Russian accents given their origins?)
Any dog can pull a sled. And given the look (At least on Kirby) he may be part Chow Chow, given the coloration, build and puff. Probably cross-bred. Or a Shiba Inu cross, Caucasian Mountain Dog cross, Malinois cross... Take your pick. There are many powerful breeds in the world, and the genestocks can be mixed freely given time and space.

Like Exile from Road Rovers? Well, I'm actually not so sure about that...the breed may have originated there, but if these dogs were not reared there or have no contact with Russian culture or anything, why would they have the accent? My ancient ancestors lived in Germany but I (unfortunately!) didn't inherit a German accent. XD It would be kinda cool and fun if they'd done that for maybe a couple--I find it clever and cute sometimes when dogs are given accents from their countries of origin. Like the pound dogs in Lady & the Tramp (ie, Boris the Borzoi.) But heck, the Husky from Krypto the Superdog has a French-Canadian accent. You can pick up an accent from wherever you happen to live (though that Husky I mentioned doesn't even live on Earth, lol, so I dunno what's goin' on there.) But, who cares? Anyway, yeah, I think the chubbiness of some of the dogs is just due to a combination of factors that've already been discussed-breeds, diet, diversity in the animation..

But then, given the time frame, he probably got out of Russia for one of two reasons. Either he was a White Russian who fled after the fall of the Romanovs, or a Red Russian ousted after failing to fall under the party line. Still, it would be funny to see a Rusian husky.

Yes, you're probably right about him, that's an interesting point. And a Russian Husky would have been cute.
