What I found works well is:
Take a screenshot of a pic and stare at it for a few minutes - seriously, don't do anything! Stare at it for maybe, 5 minutes, then draw a circle, on your paper, for the head. Don't make it exact, just do a circle.
REMEMBER: Do not draw hard - make it very light!!!! OK, so then reall quick just skecth an idea of the character out on your paper - it may not look exactly as you want it, so don't worry! It'll take practice. Don't draw everything, just put some circles for the paws, and some lines for the legs... a line for the back. OK! Now, connect everything, so that it looks a bit more complete. Finnish with the face (Circles line and such for the eyes, nose, mouth, etc.) then complete those too. Stare at the picture again or another 2 minutes. Look at ours. What can you improve?
After figuring that out, try again! Compare your first time with your second time - and see how you've done!
