The worst thing about shock collars is that you have to think.. how did scientists come to discover that the shock hurts the dog? Dogs were obviously involved in this cruel testing.

Probably it happened in day to day life. I bet they had horses and mules fenced with electric tape long before shock collars. So say, a dog was crawling under an electric fence, and the bottom tape was low, and they bumped into it, and they barked in pain.

But still, they would have had to figure out how to make a collar that does the same thing as the electric fence when the button is pushed. A lot of things could go wrong during that process, and I'd rather not think about how they found "the ideal intensity of the shocks."

Orion-BSP! What are you thinking!! How could you put shock or choke collars on Dogs or Cats!!!! That's cruelty to animals!! Those types of collars hurt dogs, they electicute them when they don't listen. I can't believe you think those Collars are good for Dogs!! And No I wouldn't tie a horse to an electric fence.........are you insane!

Shock collars give a little shock. I have put my finger across the shock part before and got just a little jolt. It isn't cruel!

Alright then, what would you prefer;
Disobedient dog getting out of your garden, rushing across main road and getting hit by a truck.
OR;
Disobedient dog attempting to get out your garden, recieving minor shock and then staying safe - and alive - within your garden.
People should really think about the positive things before heading straight to cruelety side. Choke chains are necessary for dogs that pull on leads. Both choke and shock collars should only be used by experienced handlers though.

What idiot would tie anything to an electric fence? That would be continuous frying of the whatever! I've said this before, using a shock collar correctly is more humane than not using it! Would you rather have your stubborn dog be crushed by a four wheeler or shocked and will stay away from four wheelers from then on? Would you rather have your obediant dog crushed by a four wheeler in an area where it couldn't hear your voice or shocked and will stay away from four wheelers from then on? I'd choose the second choice on both questions.

Anyway it saves their lifes. I'd rather have my dog get shocked a few times because they showed their teeth then have it killed because it got out and bit someone. People shoot dogs that bite them.
I got attacked by a dog when I was 6 and they put the dog down, why because it was free from it's home and it bit me and wouldnt let go.

Thats just it. Some dogs won't respond to light training and if it is for their own good I would agree but, I wouldn't do it to my dog now because my dog CAN'T escape my yard.
