I thought it was very touching how kind Duke was to Balto, at every turn. How he didn't talk down to him the way we all so often do to dogs in real life. (Man, can you imagine what dogs would think of us, because of that kind of "baby talk" we throw at them, if they really COULD communicate with each other the way they do in the Balto cartoons?!)
Duke is a kind, good-hearted character. And yet, he's still the "antagonist" of the storyline. That's an amazing twist on the classic "bad guy" concept! Kudos to the writers!

Duke looks like he is a champ in flying planes. He's nice for a charecter that's why Balto cares for him.

You don't know him. How can you "know" a cartoon character?

Personally, I didnt care much for Duke, besides Rosy, he is the only human character thats implemented in the story line. I dont hate him for the whole job-stealing buisniss, I just dont feel...comfortable with him. When I first saw his face, my first thought was "Bad-guy"

Well in my honest opinion, I think Duke looks like David Hasselhoff but for the movie, he did play a important role.

I can agree with that... Hehe, I can totally imagine Duke as both a baywatch dude AND a judge in American Idol=P

I believe these character dislike topics miss what it was that is acctually disliked, the film itself. I don't have anything against duke, if anything I am predjudiced towards him as a fellow pilot. However, I can't stand the movie. I saw it once and I never want to see it again. The only character I can site specifically is Stella. She is the only balto character I have truly disliked. I didn't mind Aleu, but I couldn't stand WQ either. Balto 3 hit closer to my interests, abandoning magic for aviation, but I liked niether movie. I think the issue lies not in individual characters but in execution. I have read and enjoyed many fanfics involving balto 2 and 3 characters. I believe the fault is in the execution of plot and character development, which is why fanfics can get away with it.

Duke is a kind, good-hearted character. And yet, he's still the "antagonist" of the storyline. That's an amazing twist on the classic "bad guy" concept! Kudos to the writers! It's more of a show of sportsmanship than anything. For example, when the Yankees play the Orioles, the Yankees want to win and succeed because it's their job, but they still shake hands with the competition after the game. Thank you, NYBF! Though I don't really get into baseball enough to get your reference, I agree on the sportsmanship. Duke might not have been the most interesting character, but he showed great sportsmanship, and was a brilliant example for kids watching the movie.

In all honesty, I personally think it'd have gone better had Duke been split into two seperate characters. Reason being his motivations and his personality clashed too much for me. He was a nice guy, but he was trying to take the dog's job. He likes the dogs, but is trying to take their job. If his liking them is PART of his motive, that'd be fine, but they didn't go that route, and it's confusion. I'd rather either change that or split him into a character with his motivation and a character with his personality. That's just me.
