I agree with you cat, I wanted to make something different so I made up Jusper and Susie, and now I saw lots of people making border collies in Balto family as well!!!It is really annoying

I agree with Cat. Some of these fics are just too alike. Although I know I am not the most original person, I try not to follow everyone else. The only Balto fanfic that I have actually started (But haven't finished yet), would be my virsion of what happens to Balto's pups.
Actually, if I do recall, Cat did one of those. And I remember reading it. It was quite good. Witch, may have brought me to write mine. But so far, I see a big different between them, though. As is I took my own ideas out of no where to put it together. But the basic idea of fic prolly came from you, Cat.
..If only I ever finish it. But anyways. Cat has a PERFECTLY good point. And I understand completely what she is saying. People DO need to be more original. I mean, like taking the 'basic' idea is one thing, but turning it into something almost exactly the same, but not quiet as good as the original is just... unacceptible.
As Cat said, who would want to read something like that? I wouldn't. That's probably why I don't read most fan fics. Because they are all basically the same.
If one person gets alot of comments for their fics because they had an original idea, doesn't mean another person can get the same result with a crappy re-make.
I don't know why people would do that. But they do. And its terrible. I commend you Cat, because you are absolutly right. :33

Well, that's rather understandable. Dakota is a popular name for a dog, huskies especially.

As an avid fanfic-writer and reader, I suppose I should rant along with this:
Anyway, I get your point, Cat. I think we all know that both of us are some of the big trend-setters of Balto fanfics on the site (Me and my whole "Saba-incest" fics, and you and your Kodi/Kirby and other "gay" fics), so it's obvious that we'd see lots of poorly-written fics based on the exact same concepts (Well, not all of the time . . . I've read a couple of rather good incest fics (Rotramel's being one of them, of course) and maybe one or two same-sex relationship fics (ArcticWolf's is one of them), but most of them are plotless babble. At least think up a story to go with the situation, not just make it all about the "naughty dance" or the typical "OMG it's forbidden! But I love you!" crap.).
And the popular names? Well, again we have this in common (you with "Kiona" and me with "Denali" . . . strangely enough, they're based on the same pup . . . but different genders! Well, I'll be darned.), and it's driving me nuts. It seems that n00bs (the newbies) have no sense in originality anymore, and it makes me sad. Really. But I agree with you on the whole "popular dog names are okay" thing. If it's an actual name that you could see for a sled dog (like the populr ones that you see on the Internet search engines), then fine. We have no problem with it. However, if it's a name that we specifically use for a character (like your "Kiona") and someone uses (*cough*steals*cough*) for their own story without the creator's permission . . . . something's wrong there, buddy. (even it they're two different dogs, it still sounds like stealing to me.)
And the "Balto/Aniu/Jenna/Boris's past" storylines? I see nothing wrong with these, really. (I have a Boris flashback fic idea and a "in-progress" Aniu's past fic, so meh.) It's the "OMG, Balto and Jenna's *insert number here*th litter! But wait! *gasp!* Some of them look like wolves! Oh God, it's WQ all over again!" storylines that bother me. They've had puppies before, it's a normal thing for them to do, I suppose (for fictional characters anyway . . . I wonder how many babies they've had so far, based on all of the fics?), but in the end, they'll always have the free-spirited pups (Aleu-clones much?) and the swarm of "Jenna-clones" (since we've already discovered that apparently Jenna's husky look is dominant) popping out. Make something original and fresh, okay? (or if you use one of these over-used plot ideaas, jazz them up a bit! Make me really want to read it, dang it!)
*whew!* That's a lot of ranting!

THANK you, Ac. I'm pleased to find some young people (including young Europeans, like yourself and Togo) who agree.

Ok, I am officially stating to the world that I am fed up. We all know you guys are homophobes. You can stop bringing your problems down on we who aren't at ANY time now. Especially on my topic, which I was HOPING wouldn't be locked any time soon. But since you guys need to point that out every time it's brought up (and is directed towards those who CAN RELATE) you guys are wearing on my (and many others') nerves, and I can see it happening. If you must beat every sense of creativity out of everyone, do it elsewhere. And Ac, nothing is sacred anymore (if you want to help promote sacredness, why not keep this topic from getting tainted with flames?). I'd go into a full discussion on that, but this topic is risking getting locked already as it is.

Cat, it does not necessarily follow, just because many fans of the Balto cartoons (and/or the real story) don't like seeing the characters' established designs toyed with (simply for the sake of telling a story), that they are homophobic. That is not only an oversimplification, it is reverse prejudice.
The plain fact is that a lot of us DON'T like seeing the characters toyed with just because some writers think that their established design is "boring" or whatever else (and such descriptions HAVE been used about them). The same goes for twisting their natures with regard to incest...foul language, gratuitous violence, etc. It's not right. And we don't HAVE to like it just because it's currently politically correct TO like that stuff. Just as some people have a right to push that stuff in everyone else's faces, so do those who have a problem with it have a right to complain about it! Does that make them homophobes? Maybe, for some. For others, maybe they just don't like some writers SCREWING with characters they love dearly. And there isn't a dad-blamed thing wrong with THAT.
But it's so typical of writers of that kind of fiction (or artists who do that kind of art) to accuse detractors of homophobia, racism, and every other negative ill of society. And that's just a base tactic, and it stinks. Just like the liberal establishment uses that mindset to - once again - SHOVE those things into our faces, instead of allowing homosexuals to keep it in their bedrooms, in private and in peace, WHERE IT BELONGS. There is no law that says people HAVE to like that stuff, or that they HAVE to like those who subscribe to a certain sexual preference. No matter how much liberals would like it to be so. That's communistic...ironic that LIBERALS so often act so communistic...which is, in theory at least, the diametric opposite of the liberal canon. Again:

Well, whether foul language, etc. is right or wrong in fanfics is not what the topic is about, is it?

I was covering a larger canvas of what upsets many members here - the excessive violence and profanity as well as the homosexuality and incest in fan fictions. You took off upset about the reaction people have to this stuff...that's not "on topic" either, is it? I just followed the thought process you introduced.
I mean, REALLY...are you the only one who's allowed to be upset, and make a fuss about it? Or is it that others ARE allowed to be upset, just so long as they're not upset about stuff you've created, or issues that are "sacred" to you? Is everything that challenges your comfort zone, or creativity, a flame or an attack upon YOU? (Now, you can look at that question as a cheap flame, or as a seriously-posed question about your mindset on matters like this. Frankly, I see it as the latter...)

*I* did not introduce it. Yes, I may have gotten off topic. But let's not get confused as to who's starting what (although i suppose it would be accurate if *I* started something, because I ALWAYS start SOMETHING). Now (and i believe i've stated this before), I'm telling everyone not to bring their problems here if it has nothing to do with them. This topic to pointed towards those who can relate to it, not to those who can't.

"Telling" rarely gets results. "Asking" usually does. You know the old saying: "you attract more bees with honey than you ever will with vinegar" (or words to that effect).
I edited my last two posts...please observe before you reply again. It might help direct this little chat better.

Why don't you PM me or make a topic directed towards my getting offended? I'm tired of the space getting wasted on a topic I made SPECIFICALLY for people who had experience with copied fanfics.
