That one addoption one.. #1liloandstichfan's one, really annoys me. Half of the pages are all spam! They will sit there and talk about things that doen't relate to the 'addoption' topic in any way whatsoever! It's very dumb..

I agree too. These contests and adoptions are hogging all the attention.

Let's say a new artist posted a topic in that board, politely asking for a critique, some encouragement, and suggestions for getting better, but no one's paying attention, because, "OMG! So-and-so is putting this kick*** character up for adoption! Come look!" Or maybe, "Sweetness! A helpless fanfic writer need illustrations for their story, and if you win, your character gets a cameo in their story! That would be like, so special!"

This new artist gets no replies and maybe like, 10 views because everyone is drooling over all these contests and adoptions. I'll leave it up to you to decide how that new artist may feel.

True, I may be considered guilty of one of these "contests," so to speak, but in my opinion, it's much different than most of the others here. It's probably because I never mentioned any lame reward that so many people are ignoring that topic. I personally don't like giving rewards for winning contests, because it makes me feel like I'm bribing people to join. But anyway, the topic, called Silver Star because that's the name of the comic I'm making, has no replies and about 25 views, while those adoptions and contests have way more publicity than they need.

I´ve always thought the whole "adopt a character" is a silly thing to start.
Do people lack a imagination these days ?

And yes i´ve been silent about it, didnt have time to actually sit on me tail & actually write a "Rant" post about. And i dont follow around the forums every day.

But i do however like to comment on people´s art. Not that im a expert or anything. Just my kinda saying: Thank you for sharing your work worldwide!

What I don't get is why anyone would want someone to create a mate for their own character. To me, that's like writing a novel, and giving it to someone part way through writing it and saying, "Here, write this chapter for me." I can understand being inspired by something, or basing a character off something, but this just is so un-origonal.

As far as the contests, it's getting rediculus. These are not contests, these are basicly jobs that are being done for free. The artists are competing for a job as if they were in the real world. Now, in my opinion, this is the last place where we should have it be where it's like that. We have a lot of amature artists here that want to have fun doing art work and have it seen by a fair number of people. If we turn this into such a competitive forum, then those amature artists basicly get shoved off to the side. Art is a very competitive feild to go into, and people who wish to become artists need to learn to deal with the competitiveness, but the fanart forum here is not the place for that.

Lilo tries to make them stop...its jodi-lion who spams in it, along with all the other topics..and she also doesn't use grammer which makes it worse and far more annoying..

Agree, even though I find myself guilty of making a vid contest at least it was a contest that was made just for the fun of it and to give everyone who did a good a job a freking pat on the back, then No about the drawing contest, nobody has creativity anymore if everyone makes the same thing there's no originality people aren't thinking of their own anymore they rather trace something and claim it as their knowing that it will end up ugly and being a problem then to pick up a damm pencil and think of something then I mean at least with contests you know some of them (like the very first ones) were made for fun and maybe to give someone else a pat on the back, but new contests are made to get "famous" among others is like look the more contests you have the more people who will join to supposuvely admire your art and know you but if this is the case then noone admires anyone and it's all junk.

Adoptions are completele what I call stupid, first of all they aren't even original, they are the same old crap that nobody wants and that's why they are given away, what's the big deal about their crapy looking cracters? if they want attention that is defently not a way to get it, I want to say more but I really don't wanna swear, meanwhile all you can do is fo to the site fan art page and look for starter artists, I am surprized of just how many good artists there are out there not getting the attention their art diserves...so all there's to do for now is to go to the site fan arts and post comments there meanwhile.

One my fan fics page, there's this guy who keeps making negative comments about them. Being the author, I take it quite personally when I have to explain every single detail to a guy who hasn't read it yet.

Take for example my sixth story The Great Showdown. In it, balto is sent to the hospital after a brutal wrestling match against Steele. (Just a plot twist, I have nothing against one of my fave charries.) Anyways, this guy comes in and flips out because I allegidly "Killed Balto" in my story. Considering that he fine at the end of story, and he returns in the next book should be pretty big clues as to Balto's fate.

Here, see for yourself...http://baltosource.timduru.org/balto-act-fan-ong-2-numg-31.html

This is one reason why I haven't posted any new fanarts recently (not just because my scanner's acting weird).

Has anyone noticed that most of these "Adoption Topics" and "Mate Contests" are mainly done by newbies?

Shoot, if they had enough time to make up an idea by creating a contest to put someone else's own character into their story, they could have already had an original thought of "Hey, this *such-and-such* would be good for my character! I'll make my own instead!", thus becoming a normal writer.

But no. No . . . I suppose it does give non-talented writers the chance to have their character "mate" with another character (But I agree with GreyWolf101 on the whole "why not be mateless?" option. I mean, you don't have to have a significant other to make an interesting story! That's what makes it interesting!), but still . . . all of those will end up the same. They make babies, and fight the numerous conflicts that come between family and survival.

And the adoption thing . . . I just don't get it. What does it mean, can someone explain it to me? I thought it would be more like the online adoptable gifs, but I have a feeling it's nowhere close to that.

Like many have said, I see nothing wrong with the fanfic cover contests. I agree, some people are talented in one end and not the other, (unlike me, I make my own covers to go with my own stories; I know there are others that choose to make their own, hand-drawn or computer-generated, so I'm not leaving anyone out.) so these are necessary . . . but not all stories need covers. Leave the reader in surprise, make them curious to read what happens to the characters (even with the lack of pictures).

To conclude this, I believe that the traditional fanart forum has turned into nothing more than a newbie's paradise for breeding fan-characters and adopting characters that make no sense to the term "fan-art". I miss the good-old fanart days when people would ask for critiques, suggestions, and words of praise and improvement. Now, fanart is becoming a dying art, losing its originality and creativity to the forces of the N.0.0.B.

Maybe I could reduce the problem by making two sticky topics, one for the adoptions and another for contests; and everyone would have to post messages for adoption and contests ONLY in these topics.

I don't know about everyone else here (whether they agree with me here or not), but I think that sound like as good of a solution as you can get steet.

I agree with your rant Black Shimmer. The adoptions and conests are cool but, I think there are way too many. I hope some day people will finaly slow down with all that crap and maybe show off their art a little instead of giving it all away.
