Sergei & Amali (Me and SixNewAdventures ONLY)

"They might be gone, but I don't think this branch can hold us both." Amali said, fear in her voice.

She dug her claws into the bark and held on. And having Sergei nearby didn't help the fact that she was scared to death.

"Sergei?" she asked in a shaky voice, as the branch began to tip even more.

Sergei felt terror sweat running on his forehead, the situation didn't seem promising at all. He knew that the tree wouldn't hold them both, and he wasn't going to let Amali die. So, he made a decision that would not be easy for anyone - he decided to save Amali by a sacrifice.

- Amali, listen to me, you have to jump, he then said, looking her straight in the eyes.

Amali's eyes widened as she realized what he was going to do.

"Sergei, don't even think...."

Sergei looked her in her emerald eyes, he knew she had realized what he was going to do.

- It's the only way to save you, he said, sweat running on his forehead from both pain and fear. Then, the tree bended even more and now it started falling more and more towards the gorge, and Sergei's back legs slipped and he grabbed the bark with his claws.

Amali reached out and grabbed Sergei by his paw with hers. "I'm not letting you do this." she said, struggling to keep him afloat. "Even if it means giving up my own body."

Sergei looked at Amali, who was holding his paw on hers. He knew she didn't want him to do this, but he also knew he had no choice, so he looked her straight in the eyes.

- I'm sorry, Amali... he said, with apologizing look in his eyes, then he whispered to her:

- I love you.

After this, he slashed Amali with his paw, pushing her to safety and then the tree fell, taking Sergei with it, and he and tree both fell into the river.

Every thought was blanked out from Amali's mind as she stared at the cracked end of the branch and the river. She ran over to the edge and tried to look for him. Right then, all she felt was intense pain, fear and confusion.

Sergei had hit her, yet he had also told her that he loved her. She didn't know what to think. Should she be mad? Should she be angry, or happy? She didn't even notice the tears welling up in her eyes as she looked over. Without knowing, she let out a call. She didn't know whether it was a scream, cry or something else entirely.

All she remembered was yelling his name and then breaking down right there. As her mind cleared a little, she only had time to think for a while before she blacked out. Oh Sergei, I love you too, but I never got to tell you.

Sergei was trying to get himself up to the surface, but the curtain was too strong, it kept dragging him to the bottom, no matter how hard he tried. And even if he could get his head on the surface, the curtain always pulled him under water.

Finally, he got so tired from the lack of blood due to his wound, that he couldn't fight the curtain anymore.

So, he fell under the surface, and the curtain kept taking him further, and closer and closer to the waterfall. And then the world began to fade to black, as Sergei slowly lost consiousness...

Amali dragged herself back to the cave. She got up on the ledge and continued to cry. She had never been so depressed in her whole life. Why did life have to take away the one lion who could have helped her, just when she realized she loved him?

Why did he have to go?

(You mean the contest? Sure, I guess I could give it a shot^^)

The place where the river ended right below the waterfall had a small oasis. A lionesses figure walked out of the water, carrying the unconsious Sergei on her back and dropped him to the ground.

He was alive, but just barely. The wound on his shoulder had stopped bleeding in the water, but he was in weak condition.

Now, the lioness who had pulled him out of the waterfall, walked up to him, and looked down on him, then she walked back to the river to catch some fish.

"And what are you crying about?"

An old, wise and joking voice woke Amali. The first thing she felt was intense anger and irritation. "Go away, Rafiki. I don't want to talk."

The old baboon came in, holding his stick. "You do not want to talk, eh?" he asked. "You are angry, with yourself, not me." Amali stared at him in anger, but realized that what he said was true.

"You're right." she sighed. "I should have done something to stop him." She buried her head in her paws again and began weeping. "Oh, you big-headed idiot. Why did you do something so stupid?"

(Oh no problem my friend^^ Man, I'm almost crying when I'm reading these posts!)

After some time had passed, Sergei finally started waking up. He opened his eyes slowly, and lifted his head, biting his teeth from pain, then he saw a fish someone had put in front of him. Sergei raised his eyebrow, looking quite confused, when a familiar voice called:

- You're awake, finally. I was getting worried.

When Sergei turned his head, he couldn't believe who he saw standing there: Mbali, his old mate, whom he had left when he decided to leave the Pride lands.

- Mbali? he asked quietly, raising his eyebrows.

(yeah, I'm trying my best to keep up with your standards here!)

Amali put her head up, seeing the wet patch of fur on her paws. Seeing them made her want to cry more, but she tried to pull through. She couldn't believe she had just broken down like that. She had been known for putting with with the toughest wounds, but now she was tired of being someone she was not.

"He could still be alive." Rafiki told her. She lifted her head and gazed at him through her tear-filled eyes. "How would you know? He fell into a river. It's obvious he's dead." she felt a few more tears run down her cheeks.

"If he is, would you not know? You can find him, just follow your heart. Love will find a way, my little friend." Saying so, the old baboon swung away, singing an African chant which Amali didn't understand at all, but felt stronger while listening to it.

(Heh, it's not that hard!)

Sergei couldn't believe that his ex-mate was actually standing in front of him, and most likely had saved his life. He stared at her for a moment, with his mouth open.

- Did you... did you save my life? he then asked quietly.

- Of course I did. Even though you broke my heart, I couldn't have let you drown, Mbali said, and sat down in front of Sergei. He looked at her, still rather confused, and then lowered his head.

- I never meant to hurt you. I just couldn't stay in the Pride lands, he said.

- It doesn't matter anymore. Eat the fish, I caught just for you.

Sergei looked at Mbali, but then took the fish between his paws and started chewing it.

(Wow, now that last post was good. I'm doing my best to keep up with that! Anyway, I am still 13, so don't blame me^^)

"But how do I find him?" Amali asked out loud.

Since there was no answer, she walked out and sat down, looking at the sky. She sighed as everything around her reminded her of the white lion who had stolen her heart.

"Sergei, if you're out there, please give me a sign." she whispered.
