Cynder sighed. "Something bad...Spyro killed Gaul...but was exposed to Malefor's darkness to do so...He turned Gaul to stone and shattered him..."

Flashback

Cynder woke up and walked over to the edge of the huge hole leading to the Well of Souls, peering down into the evil place. Not knowing what was happening to Spyro in that place made her fear for him. “What’s happening down there?”

Sparx floated over and looked down as well. “Spyro? You okay, buddy?” called Sparx.

Cynder looked over, able to tell clearly he was worried to…for once she agreed with the annoying little pest. Cynder watched in horror as the sinister form of Dark Spyro flew up the pillar of purple energy, glaring at them both. Cynder backpedaled in shock and terror, staring up in horror at her best friend. “Oh no…” she muttered, horrified at this evil thing that used to be Spyro. She knew that he was under the same power that once held her, she couldn’t abandon him now. “Spyro Stop!” she pleaded, trying to reach him. She saw Sparx trying to calm Spyro as well, glad to have him here, even if she normally couldn’t stand him.

Spyro began to struggle. “I…I can’t!” he yelled, pained and flickering back to his normal self but then back to Dark Spyro. Realizing she had no choice but to get him out of that beam, she reared back and got a running start, launching into the air with all her strength. She slammed into Spyro, knocking him clear of the beam. She landed hard but quickly got back to her feet, looking over to see Spyro stand up, restored to his normal self, much to her relief. She spread her wings and flew over to him, only to find him guilt ridden.

“What have I done?” asked Spyro, clearly guilty for what he’d just did.

Cynder looked at him, knowing exactly what he was going through right now…she’d been there. “You’re okay, Spyro. You’re with friends.” she replied, quietly, but reassuringly.

"It's kinda amazing what happened next," said Cynder. "Pretty much, the mountain imploded."

"Don't really know, but we think it's because Malefor was set free." said Cynder.

"We almost died, but I was able to use one of my powers, Dragon Time, to seal us inside a Time Crystal, burning that power out in the process." said Spyro.

"And after that, we pretty much slept inside that crystal for three years." explained Cynder.

"It was actually suprisingly comfortible." said Sparx.

"Didn't need it, it was a time crystal." said Spyro. "It pretty much froze us in time...yet somehow we came out fifteen years old instead of 12."

Cynder nodded. "Kinda a good thing, since we were stronger as teenagers than kids."

"Yeah, would've been better if we'd not woken up to find outselves chained to the floor, about to be sacrified to a giant lava monster." explained Cynder.

"The Golem, that wasn't fun." said Spyro.
