"On the ground," Rue supplied. "Use your backpack as a pillow."

"Ok" yaned Celeste, settling down "Promise you won't wander off"

"I swear," Rue promised, giving Celeste a small hug.

Cekste smiled and curled up.

Rue quietly walked to where Phantom was, careful not to disturb Celeste's sleeping form. "Anything interesting?" she called out softly.

"This cave tretches back a long way" said Phantom, peering into the darkness "And I can hear running water that sound likenit's coming from down there, I'd like to explore furtehr.

"Go ahead," Rue encouraged. "I'll keep watch."

Phanto nodded oing through the cave. The further down he went it got darker and the tunnels got smaller until he was doubled over to walk through. Suddenly, He entered a large round cave with thin slits of light coming through the rood, and and inside small lake with water crashing down into it from a waterfall that dissaoeared up a shear wall of the cave into darkness. The floor was cool and smooth but not slippery and as he walked roun the edges of the cave he realised there were tunnels that led off in different directions. He sat down by the bubbling water and dipped his hand i. I was warm but not uncomfertable, and crystal clear.

The steady whup-whup of helicopter blades filled the air outside. It sounded far off, but Rue tensed. Her wings flared in an almost instinctive reaction; fight or flight. Which was literal in her case. Peering cautiously out of the cave, she saw the disappearing outline of a dark chopper. She breathed out a steady sigh of relief; they were still safe. For now.

Phantom padded carefully round the edge of the lake, his breath echoing off the walls.

Rue glanced at Celeste. Her sleeping figure was still, only moved by her slow, steady breaths. Her face was framed by her hair, a few golden strands falling over it. She looked even younger than ever, and Rue felt a pang shoot through her heart. Celeste shouldn't have to go through this; being on the run, paranoia, etc.

Phantom reached the far edge of the lake when uddenly the ground droppedaway beneath his footing. he fell with a lud splash into the deep water "Help!" He criedout, thrashing uselessly. he could feel the water, now icy cold, Clawing at him, as if trying to pull himdown, his limbs felt like lead weights and he was unsure how long he'dbe able to stay aboe the surface.

Rue dimly heard the cry, and cocked her head fractionally. It was so quiet...could she be imagining it? She did need to keep watch, but her natural curiousity refused to let her stand silently by. She went into the tunnel, concentrating fiercly on where it had come from.

It wasn't long before she saw Phantom, thrashing in the dark water. "Phan!" she cried out, rushing to the edge. She waded in, the water sending icy pangs up her legs. She reached out a hand, grasping his flailing arm.

Phantom grasped her wrist and puleld himself forward slight, crablling for any foothold in the lake, Soon he scraped the floor with his knee, surprised at home sharply it came up. Blood trickled from a small cut, making the water a weird crimson colouraround it. Hs tood up and shook water out of his lothes/hair/wings. He gasped for breath and looked at Rue "Th-Thanks" he shivered.

Rue's worried brown eyes took in his dripping clothes, and his sopping wet hair, which was plastered to his forehead. "You must be freezing," she said, giving his cold hand a sympathetic squeeze. "Let's see if we have any blankets or something."
