When they were all far enough away from the prison, Vetch slowed down. "He saved our lives, you know." he said, referring to Darryl. "He gave his life to save ours."

Nook stopped running entirely. "When I ran back," he said, "I didn't know what I was doing. I just wanted to see if I could stop being a coward for once to save our friend. But I wasn't fast enough..." he suddenly got angry. "CURSE THESE TINY LEGS!"

Rue nudged Nook, making him stumble. "Just keep running," she said, though not unkindly.

Nook 'hurrumphed' and started to run again.

"Come on, Nook. We were all not fast enough. Just let's focus on finding a way back home." Vetch assured.

Rue nodded. "Speaking of which, anybody got any ideas of how to get back?" she asked.

"If Darryl were alive, I bet he'd know." Nook whined.

"Well, he's not, so maybe we should find a way home by ourselves." Vetch snapped.

Suddenly an explosion shook the building. "Come on, we better go now," she said, the exit nearby.

"Oh no!" Vetch panicked as he pushed Nook ahead. "Go!" he yelled.

THe floor shook again, large thuds coming off near their right. Rue took a step towards the exit, waiting for them to get a move on.

"Come ON, Nook!" Vetch growled through clenched teeth. He finally just clamped Nook's foxy tail in his mouth.

"YYYOOOOOWWWWWW!" Nook screamed. He rocketed forward.

Rue raced off after him. "Keep running as fast as your tiny legs can carry you or I'll claw your backside," she warned, running beside Nook.

Nook's tiny legs were moving so fast, he wouldn't be surprised if they started smoking. Even though he was moving super fast to himself, to Vetch and Rue he was falling behind again.

Vetch sighed and growled at the same time as he fell behind a little bit to shove Nook forward. After Nook fell behind again, Vetch took him in his mouth and bolted forward, his fangs poking Nook in the face.

THey fianly broke through the exit, smoke clogging the air. Rue coughed, her breath wheezing.

"What was what?" Rue asked, her long legs not breaking in there pace. Searching frantically for a spot they could run, her violet gaze lit upon an exit in the smoke. "THis way," she said, managing to gasp it out through the attakc of coughing that overwhelemed her.
