"I know enough to get us there," replied Chris smoothly, "Trust me on this."

It had been several hours since the three had set off upstream. They now stopped for a break in a lush, green meadow in an otherwise barren, rocky landscape. Chris settled himself down on a large flat rock, enjoying it's warmth on his belly.
Jory sat next to the big rock and absentmindedly played with the rough sand with his paw and he asked.
"Shouldn't we find some food right now? I'm starving."
The swelling on his face had gone down considerably, though it was still red and puffy.
Chris was so busy following the steam, he hadn't thought about food, but now that Jory mentioned something, he too noticed his stomach rumbling.
"I guess we could try to hunt something. What do you think, Colin?"

Jory scoffed.
"A pretty lousy one if you ask me. Chris, how did you get food before you found our pack?"
Chris halfway sat up.
"I was always by water, so I caught fish. I've been watching the water, though, and haven't seen anything."
Jory shook his head.
"I didn't see anything either."
He paused for a moment.
"Didn't mom tell us about certain plants that are good to eat? Maybe we could find some of those."

"hey yea hes right. maybe closer to the green lands over there we find something to eat lets go" colin jumps towards the small tree green area ahead of them. not big for a forest but maybe have the plants

Chris and Jory followed Colin to a short, scraggly tree bearing small red berries. At its trunk, there were a few green weeds with large, swollen roots partly sticking out of the dry, sandy soil. Chris stared at each of these with an non trusting look on his face.
"Well...How do we know if they are good to eat? Your mom told us to be careful of things that look good to eat, but end up being poison."
Jory poked at a fallen berry and sniffed it.
"I dunno. She never really told us the difference, or what to look for."

Jory split the berry open carefully with his claw. It had several small green seeds surrounded in red juice.
"Maybe we should try one and just hope for the best."
Chris had taken interest in the green plants growing around the tree. With his mouth, he yanked one out and stared at the big white root at the bottom. Without thinking, he bit it, feeling the sweet, yet bitter juice run down his throat. His eyes started to water, but he didn't spit it out.
"Hey guys! Try these. They are actually really good!"

Chris stared wide eyed for a moment, but then laughed.
"I was talking about these plants here," He said, pointing at the plants surrounding the tree,"Not the berries."
Jory laughed, too. At least now we'll know if any of these things are poison. If you or Chris get sick, we'll know which ones are edible. Good job guys!"
The three young wolves waited silently for a moment, then Chris spoke.
"I feel fine. You should try one of these roots."

Chris shrugged and started eating the berries, too. Jory joined in and soon the three of them had consumed ever single ripe berry that had been on the bush.
Jory chuckled and patted is stomach.
"Now I really hope those aren't poison. I ate so many."

Colin starts looking around his eyes big and wide "Berrys. wheres more berrys.. You ate them all?!" he starts running around the tree looking at each inch of ground for more berrys "berries wheres my berries berries?!"

Chris put up his paws defensively and shook his head.
"There are no more berries, Colin. We ate them all! Jory, can you help me."
Chris looked over at Jory, then gave a frustrated sigh.
Jory was jumping around now as well.
"Berries, berries, I want more berries!!!!!"
