Kodi nodded softly, nuzzling his Dad in return. "I'm trying my best."
Goldie smiled, nuzzling Cachen back.
Tai smiled and snuggled into Lena's fur, looking at the pattern.
Suddenly, Katie's eyes snapped open, looking at Aniu gravely. "All I remember is...me screaming, Momma...her blood...Papa saving me, Mako...pointing that gun at me..." she stared off for a moment, all the memories coming back to her. "The first time...I ever went hunting with them..."

"Lets go." said Balto. "Are all the pups ready?"
Cachen looked up. "I'm ready papa."
Lena nodded. "I'm ready too papa."
"Mako explained that but your mother pushed you out of the way of his bullet." said Aniu. "She did what any mother would do." she said. "Sacrifice herself for her daughter."

Tai smiled "I'm ready, Papa."
Kai nodded, smirking slightly. "And I'm ready."
Kodi grinned at his Father. "Something tells me they're ready."
Katie gasped, thinking hard, the memories pulling up slowly but surely.
Katie was just playing, while her parents scented around for any prey. The pack was dispersed to find food. She was jumping about in the snow, close to Lenatei when her mother suddenly looked up at a metallic click. Mako was there, gun barrel pointed towards her.
Lenatei stooped over Katie right before Mako fired the gun. both gasped, Lenatei's blood poured from her chest, as she collapsed, Katie in her forearms. Bashkei turned and saw after hearing his little daughter cry out in horror. He quickly rushed up over his dying mate, and grabbed Katie, covered in red. She and Bashkei heard the last thing Lenatei ever said.
"Love, run."
They had, and they lived...Katie broked down for a moment, the memory becoming fresh in her mind once more. "She did! She did!" she cried softly.

Balto nodded. "Alright, Kodi, you've been there before right?" he asked.
Aniu nuzzled her, well tried to but just passed through her. "Lenatei told me she's proud of you and was only doing what any mother would do for her pup." she said. "What I did for Balto..."

"To Anchorage?" asked Kodi, looking a little suprised.
Katie looked up, ears pinned back. "But you don't see do you?" she cried softly. "If I had run, Mama would be alive!" she said, truly upset.

"I thought you might of been there on a sled run before." said Balto.
Aniu pinned her ears. "That's not how she saw it." she said. "You couldn't of outran Mako's bullet, your mother saw Mako aim but there is no way you could've." she said. "She told me in heaven to tell you that she couldn't be prouder of you and she doesn't regret what happened, she wished she could've stayed with you but she is glad you're alive, that you've got a family."

Kodi shook his head. "Sorry Dad, no."
Katie couldn't say anymore, she was too tired. She gently nestled herself down, eyes halfclosed, she nodded. "I...know. I know she's proud and happy I'm okay, Aniu...But why her?"

"Because Mako is a heartless cruel man." said Aniu. "He is evil and sadistic, people like them shouldn't even exist." she said. "But that's why we must remain strong."

Katie nodded slowly, trying her best to nuzzle into Aniu. She knew she'd phase through, and she couldn't help but whimper slightly. "I'm glad you came. Within a few days, I'd probably go mad from being alone. I'm a wolf, it's not in me to be alone."
Kodi nodded, giving a light sigh under his breath. "Then, let's go. The sooner we leave, the sooner things will go back to normal."

Aniu nodded. "I know." she said. "That's one of the reasons I felt so bad for Balto when I died." she said. "Until he met Boris, he was so lonely and sad." she said. "Wolves are social by nature." she looked in her minds eye at Bashkei. "Your father will be glad to see you, take comfort he is alive and will see you once more."
Balto nodded. "Lets go, everyone stay togather." he started leading the way.
Lena stayed close to Tai and Kai. "We'll be ok." she said. "Mom will be ok." she said. She was normally the one that tried to stay strong and encourge her siblings.
Cachen stayed between Tai and Goldie, the two he was closest to.

Katie smiled, closing her eyes, picturing her Father, graying slightly, from when he gave her a final nose-touch, before she had gone into labor. That was a year ago. "He must look much more different than before. It feels so much longer than a year."
Kai smiled lightly, licking Lena's cheek for reassurance. "You know she's okay."
goldie smiled, keeping very close to Cachen. She put on a look of fear, only joking. "Oh, I'm so glad I have a big strong guy like you to protect me out here, Cachen." she couldn't help but grin afterward.
Tai smiled, staying close to Lena and Fang, tail curled up and wagging lightly. "Anchorage seems so far, it's not as far as Juneau right?"

"ITs closer than Juneau." said Fang. "Oh and something else I need to tell about MAko." he said. "He has two dogs, I don't know much about them, just they're good fighters."
"We'll be better." said Balto.
Aniu nodded. "He's graying a little." she said. "But still as handsome as ever." she said. "You probably didn't know but I had a puppyhood crush on your dad, but I knew Lenatei was always the right one for him." she said. "Your mother...me and her grew up togather, we were good friends." she said. "She aways had a goodheart, you got it from her."

Kai's eyes widened for a moment. "Good fighters?" he asked, a certain eagerness in his tone of voice.
Kodi looked back at his son, raising a brow. "No."
Katie smiled "You?" she said, skeptical. "If you had been Papa's mate, woh knows, maybe I would have been Balto's sister, you know?" she grinned for a moment at the thought. "Mama and Papa were betrothed though, weren't they? There was no way Papa's parents would have allowed it."

"Yes but not from birth." said Aniu. "I had a crush on him when we were puppies." she said. "But I grew out of it." she said. She's not complaining about her stomach, good. she said. "But if we had been mates, you couldn't be Kodi's could you?"

Kai looked down, grumbling quietly to himself.
Katie laughed softly, thinking for a moment. "I may have very well been Kodi's aunt." she couldn't help but give off a toothy grin at the thought
