Quote: No one is banned forever...You're only banned for 4 days it seems. And besides, the mods will be able to deactivate fanfics if there's something urgent. (but I still need to make that modification on the fanfic admin)
Just so there's no confusion, no one's touching my fics until *I* edit them. I'm going to make that clear.

Gah. Try to satisfy both sides, and here's what you get.
Quote: I had to remove my fic because it was PG-13 and was going to have a lot of violence when it was done(I was releasing it in parts).I'm a bit skeptical about why dog fight scenes stories are so cripplinly horrible for kids. There is no problem with violence as long as you don't come into gore stuff and that you don't only do violent scenes after violent scenes. That's what the rules say. Quote: I try to keep my stories realistic, and in that avenue, crappy stuff (losing an appendage in a battle, certain things like that) happen to people. Same here, the rule is : - Gory stuff (dissections, body parts cut, ...) If you don't describe and only say, for example, "his arm was cut off", it's ok. As long as you don't come into details. Quote: You know, for all this heated debate, I never got one bad post back from ANYONE about my story "Nightmare in Nome", which was a straight horror, gore fic based on Friday the 13th. Now, if everyone is so "offended" by this matieral, why didn't someone bring it up then? Anyone? I don't think that Friday the 13th is "kid friendly", for sure. But the fact no one was offended doesn't mean there won't be any people offended in the future. Quote: So the diseny rule, well not to the most true because POTC is high for a diseny and too high for the site. I only saw the first one, but POTC would be acceptable. What in it wouldn't be? Quote: Just so there's no confusion, no one's touching my fics until *I* edit them. I'm going to make that clear.
I said deactivating, not touching the text...

Togo wrote: steet wrote: Gah. Try to satisfy both sides, and here's what you get. It's impossible to satisfate everyone, that's why it's better to do what is right (or at least what you think it is) That's exactly what I've done. Quote: As to the discussion of whether gay/bi/incest fics should be allowed? Well, personally I've written an incest fic myself. (I DO NOT advocate that practice, but I was curious as to what would happen) That fic (A Forbidden Love) was the target of much praise, and again I never heard anything negative about it. In short, I do not believe personally that gay/incest/bi relationships are right (morally) but if people want to write about them, that's fine with me. Personally, I won't read the bi/gay fics as I find that detestable, let them write it. If I get to write what I want, so should they (keeping within the rules of course). Just because a subject is morally wrong to me doesn't mean someone else might find it acceptable and want to write about it.
The problem with such fics is not that they are gay/bi, but when they contain descriptions with characters making love, that's the same rule that applies. But such a fic will be rated PG anyway, because, as far as I know, there is no animated film that contain gay/bisexual characters.

Fanfic rules are fanfic rules, whether they are strict or not.

You did very well, Steet. Don't think for a MINUTE that you have to alter things again for a few extremists who are dissatisfied. I predicted that would happen. You don't see anyone on the OTHER side of the debate whining about this, do you? And yet, there are things here which they have to live with too. Seems to me that they are satisfied. So should EVERYONE be!
What you created was an EXCELLENT compromise...and it's time to stop tip-toeing around these people. If they don't like it, then they can get out. I'm sick of this...and EVERYONE is. Togo's right, you can't please everyone. But too d-a-m-n-e-d bad for the malcontents. You did the best you could for EVERYONE. It's time for us to settle in and move ON about this.

Umm, one more thing - (this one's mainly for Steet)
What about fics that are linked to another site (like Fanfiction.net or something)? Would you still have the authority to tell someone with a PG-13/R fic that they have to edit their fics when it's not actually on your site?
And what if not all of the PG-13/R fics are taken down or edited? Some could slip through the cracks.
Just a thought . . .

Well, it's the same case for the music videos : not everything is accepted even if there are only links on the site, so I guess it will be the same rules which will be applied.
Anyway, as I said, it's the mods job to tell you if a fanfic should be taken down or edited. You don't have to do it until a mod tells you to do it.
I don't want people taking down fanfics when they are, in fact, acceptable.
BTW, people seems to think these rules are new and strict, but these were the old rules that applied (these were given to the mods) :
- No off-topic fanfics. On Balto Source, wolves and dogs stories are allowed. Same for lions on Lion King Source. - No stolen fanfic from another person (it shouldn't happen very often) - No fanfic really too short (they shouldn't look like a summary) - Of course there must be a valid fanfic file. If you can't read the file by double clicking on it, try converting it with Convert doc first and check if it worked. If it didn't work, the file isn't probably valid. - Too violent or sexual fanfic. There is a rating system, although if a fanfic is REALLY too violent, you shouldn't update it.
Not so much different, is it? Now, I suppose the only problem is that I haven't insisted enough on the mods side to prevent abuse.
In fact, I feel the same reactions as when I closed the "mate" shout box...

Nope...not too much different at all. It's enforcement that appears to be at the crux of this problem. And I must admit, there is some fault in that respect that the mods must share. If this stuff isn't enforced, then the writers feel it's "anything goes". Of course, that will slow down the acceptance and posting process. But what is the lesser of two "evils"?

AND I didn't remember about the guidelines for the fanfics that Lonewolf fanwriter sticked on the forums :
Quote: Cursing: Yes, I understand that people don't say 'Rats, foiled again!' any more, but 'bad language' should be used in moderation. Just use your best judgment. It should be used to convey a very strong point or emotion, not just because you could think of anything else to have the person (or dog, or wolf) say. Depending on the level or frequency, cursing may warrent a warning in the summary.
Violence: Again, moderation. Yes, I remember the days when a guy was shot, but the last thing you saw on screen was his expression. No blood, no gore, nothing. Granted, writers may want to use blood as a 'tear-jerker' (I have), but they should probably not go into details about entrails or anything of the sort. This is not to say violence in a fic is bad. I only suggest that it be used only enough to convey what happened. And, again, the level or frequency of violence or blood may warrent a warning in the summary.
Romantic Relationships: This subject matter has grown in both popularity and controversy. Sure, there are plenty of people who may want to read about love, and as long as description diminishes after kissing. (Avoid going into detail about what characer X and character Z did after they ran off to 'chase a few sticks by the moonlight.' This is, or started out as, a kid-friendly forum.) Also, gay and incest fics have made increasing appearances, and although they are a legitimate and (at least somewhat) realistic topic, I feel they should not become the fall-back topic for every writer who runs out of ideas. (I've been seeing more and more of these fics with less and less story telling as they kept coming...) Branch out! Write about family fights, sibling rivalries, children who run away, the 'Romeo and Juliet of Nome,' I don't care! Tell me what happened between the first and second movies, or between the second and third, or make up your own sequels. All I ask is that you use your best judgment, and have fun.
So, in fact, there's nothing really new.

Yes; it depends on how it's done. There are fine ways to talk about things like that, but there can also be bad ways. I've already explained.

I think the same thing as Actrus, a lot of the fics I read and write would more than likely fall under the out list. I don't write little kid stories, I prefer the more teen adult related ones, there just better.
I think the quality of a lot of people's stories is going to drop too.
As far as the rules go, I'm not happy at all with them, because there really aren't enough stories of that nature that they should be banned. But, there's not point in argueing now, and there's nothing I can do. I hope the little children are satisfied, because there happiness will be at the expense of a lot of people.
