Yes, it's only in Japanese, same with the prequel (which is better in my mind), Ginga Nagareboshi Gin. Yeah GDW and WR are both very good, but to be honest, GNG in my mind wins over both. Not animation or color wise, but I just love the storyline 
Oh, and the Ginga episodes are subtitled on youtube since you wondered if it was only in Japanese 8D

Yes, GDW's in Japanese. But there's also a Sweedish and other versions, but no english version yet.
As for me, I like both...but they are pretty different shows. The only thing the same about them is that they're animes and that they involve canines.
