(I was thinking, what if we changed the rogue to hunters?)

Sergei smiled, and kept walking onwards. But suddenly, a strange scent came to his nose, a scent that did not seem like a friendly one. He stopped, and lifted his head sniffing the air.

Amali saw Sergei stop and stopped as well. Suddenly, she had the weird painful feeling in her heart and began silently panicking.

"What's going on?" she asked as Sergei sniffed the air.

Sergei sniffed the air, smirking his eyes.

- I scent something dangerous, he then said quietly.

Sergei started looking around him nervously, then he saw a gun's pipe pointing from a small bush near by. His eyes widened from horror when he realized there was a hunter in the bush, but he decided to stay as calm as possible, for Amali's sake.

- Amali... run, Sergei said to her, in a low voice.

Amali put her ears up and listened. She thought she heard a small click and decided to bolt.

"Come on, Sergei." she said, turning around and getting ready to run.

Just then, a shot was fired towards the two lions, and a bullet flew through a tree right next to him.

- RUN! Sergei shouted, and took off.

Amali didn't seem to hear as she was darting away in the other direction. Right then, all that mattered was getting way from that bullet. She was a bit far when she suddenly remembered Sergei.

Sergei saw the hunters coming after him, which was exactly what he had planned, he wanted to get them as far away from Amali as possible.

- Amali, don't stop, run away! he thought silently, and suddenly he turned around and lunged at one of the hunters with a loud roar. He pinned him down, and tried to bite his gun, but the hunter kicked him away, and Sergei was smashed against a tree that was near a cliff.

Amali felt the same pang of pain she had felt when Sergei was attacked by hyenas. Oh no, SERGEI! she silently yelled as she turned and ran in the direction of the gunshots.

Sergei lifted his head, only to realize there was a gun pointing at him. He growled, and lunged at the hunters again, he managed to pinn the other one down again, but then saw Amali running towards him and the hunters.

- Oh, no... no, no, Amali don't come here! he thought in horror, but when his attention was distracted, the other hunter who wasn't on the ground, and shot him on his right shoulder.

"SERGEI!"

Amali scream rang through her own ears as she felt dreadful pain in her right shoulder, the place where Sergei had been shot. She ran as fast as she could to catch up with them, but the hunters weren't interested in her. They were interested in him as he was a rare white lion whose fur could be sold at a large price. But Amali wasn't going to let them take him away from her.

Sergei fell on the ground, feeling horrible, blinding pain on his shoulder, and then saw Amali running towards them, despite him telling her not to. But then he came to look at the tree's branch, and it seemed strong enough to hold them both. He looked at the hunters, got up and roared at them, making them step back.

- Amali! Jump to the tree! he then shouted at Amali, knowing it was the only way to save her.

"Okay!" Amali yelled back.

She ran past him, giving him a nudge to help him up, and then ran to the tree and climbed it up.

Sergei watched as Amali climbed to the tree, and made sure she was safe, then turned towards the hunters. He slashed his paw at one of them, giving him a scar on his cheek. Then he roared really, really loud, and now the hunters got scared, and ran away. Making sure the hunters were going away, Sergei jumped on the branch, next to Amali.

- All right, they're gone, we should be safe, he said, panting heavily. But right after he said it, the tree started to bend over towards the gorge.
