Bright blue things that are somehow meant to be Balto's son - ... see a problem with that?

Actually...no.
The problem with the so-called "sparkledogs" is that many people do not have graphical talent and as such, can't do better. It's not the "thought" behind it. So yes, many are not good looking. If you think kids should not be allowed to send pictures because they don't have as much talent as the adults, that's another proof of egoism to me.

JC made a topic I noticed in the Fan Art section that he and Cat made some cartoon-movie versions of the real life 1925 sled dogs and as cool as I think they are I just know they'll be overlooked because they're "boring".

If you think most people are doing bad, then SHOW them the good example! HELP them!
Which is why there are the "MUST SEE" parts on each fan section and the "SELECTION OF THE WEEK" in the first place.
It's up to the moderators job to pick up the best examples and show them to everyone. THIS is a way to make them stand out! Just as much as FAN NEWS and other little things you can do.

See, I don't think the moderators job as "RESTRICTING", but as "HELPING".
If the only thing you do is BANNING, sending WARNINGS and DEACTIVATING other people's work that YOU don't like, then you're a bad moderator. The mods should be there FOR the visitors, not AGAINST them. Which is why the current moderation system couldn't work any longer.

I always thought the point of the AS sites was to be to promote less-loved and underrated animated films.

As far as I know : it still is and hasn't changed!

Did you even think, before spending 30 hours + working on this

Yes, I have thought about doing the categories system for at least 6 months, thank you. And the more I studied the problems occuring on the site, the more it became clear that it was the thing to do. And yes, I totally don't regret it, considering the amount of people who sent me messages to thank me. Even if I had to receive also a few ones still complaining, but as I said again and again : it's not possible to please everyone. This was really the best choice in the end.
And it's only the beginning!

You can have a site full of tweens with their sparkledogs or you can have a site with members of all ages contributing properly - which would you prefer?

The age categories on BS haven't changed much from the start, it's just that there wasn't a fan character section. There were already a lot of "badly drawn" characters from the very start of the site...You should really take a look at the older fanarts. This is nothing new.

The only real thing that has changed on BS is that there are way more visitors than before - hence more little conflicts.

Actually, while I see just what you're saying (and thanks for the nod), I would like to point out that the three characters are actually getting a fair amount of attention in just these first two days. Part of that is due to my active efforts to promote them on the site (without going overboard), and probably a much larger part is due to Cat's amazing artwork.

Then again, if I slack off in promoting them, they could eventually very well start to fall into obscurity. So I will keep on trying.

I now return you to your the argument in progress. ROFL

Aaaauuuuggghhhhhh!
YES!
They CAN do better!

I know because I've SEEN them do so on deviantART. Same thought process "lol i liek blue and green and i will colour my wolf those colours" but with some critique they work on it and TA-DA!

As it is here, we can't even critique people because they take it as some personal affront and refer to your new "EVERYTHING GOES! 8D" rule.

Site is becoming full of fail and I hate seeing it because I love AS.

*sits corrected*

But I will be hunting you down and poking you with a hot stick if you stop promoting them.
I want more awesome characters like those.

As long as you don't use insults or anything, you're right to give your opinion. If they don't accept it, then so be it. If that happens, promote the ones you like - don't "hunt" the ones you don't like!

I've bitten my tongue long enough but seriously? Your catty passive aggressive attitude has grated on my nerves long enough.

I'm new to fanart and this site. I don't claim to be an artist. I create characters for fun, which I naively thought was allowed. I'm still trying to master photoshop and I don't think I, or anyone for that matter, should have to "conform" to others’ ideals of what art is. I’m sure people who create sparkledogs take their work just as seriously as you all take yours. So why look down on them? It’s not a matter of their work not being as good as non-sparkledogs, because I’ve seen some of each that are great and some that were terrible. It’s a matter of the color schemes/realism of the dog.

However, why would we hold members to an ideal that universal didn’t even follow in the movie? For instance, Jenna is red; I’ve never seen a dog that is such vibrant red color. Why do you agree that unrealistic red dogs are okay, but yellow or blue dogs are not? Another example is that Stella has make-up on… I’ve never seen a goose wear mascara and eye shadow. Dixie is purple; I’m fairly certain purple dogs do not exist either. Dixie is also wearing make-up. I know people sometimes paint their dog’s nails, but not their eye lids, since dogs do not have human-like eye lids in reality. Maybe we should alert universal that their dogs do not meet standards. I also noticed another major error in universal’s version of Balto… seems to me that all the dogs are talking. Clearly, universal doesn’t understand that they should keep kids movies, sites, toys, etc. true to reality.

It’s a kids’ movie, so shouldn’t the site sort of cater to kids/tweens? Why must there be a division among members anyway? We’re all here for the same reason. We love the movies and want to discuss related topics with others who are equally interested. Why does the age of members matter? No one should feel that they are better than other people on this site, we are all equal.

And as a final note, I think Steet has done a great job keeping his sites up and running smoothly. I cannot believe the way he is being spoken to in this thread. It’s his site, so we should all be grateful that he allows us to be members. It’s not his responsibility to please everyone (that is an impossible task). He has taken action on the problems that you have brought up, you just don’t agree with his ruling.

THAT is the point. I still don't get it. Don't you have anything more interesting to do? Like, CONTRIBUTING to the site? You're saying that "sparkledogs" should not be allowed on a Balto site (which is a cartoon with red dogs, should I remind some people)...so why aren't you talking about Balto instead?

Are you kidding?
You can't go anywhere on BS where there AREN'T sparkledogs.

If someone DARES express their distaste it's instantly a case of "SHUT UP IT'S MY CREATIVITY STEET SAID THEY'RE OK SO THERE GO AWAY HATER!!!".

I'd LOVE to talk about Balto!

What is even the point on spending 30+ hours coding when you're not even listening?

Simply sticking a dummy in the mouth of people who moan isn't helping.

The only reason TaleSpin Source isn't full of this too is because people from BS are too lazy to learn to draw sparkle-anthros and prefer their ~*MAJESTIC WOLVES*~ and don't even know what TS is (and won't bother to find out because - WOLVES????).

I have to agree with what both UK and Sora have said. Both hit the nails on the head.

Brit: As a new member, you probably don't understand why many people on this site are anti-Sparkledog, since it has been a long term problem. You have probably only heard one side of the story. Jenna is not a sparkle, she is just slightly redder then normal (it's animation, they usually are brighter). Anyway, the Sparkledogs that a lot of the members of this site are against are the ones with heck-loads of jewellery, and ones that look like Mac OS X's colour-wheel of death.

. . . Last I knew it does not take ANY talent AT ALL to be able to tell that a dog cannot be blue/pink/purple and all the other ugly things that are sparkledogs. It's a little something people like to call commen sense. I will never (nor do I ever want to) understand how a blue dog is "creative".

I agree with many of you about this matter. The Sparkle Dog thing is getting out of hand, but really, the more we keep expressing our anger and opinions Steet may very well take a more drastic measure. I won't say what it is, but I think you all have an idea.

Come on, guys, seriously, this is juvenile. Aren't many of us young adults, in our early twenties. We're not kids anymore, though we have a few members on the site who are and don't know the ways of the world yet.

If you don't like the sparkle dogs pay them no mind. Go on about your business. Contribute in a different way.

Steet has made his decision, don't push him over the edge and make him do something different.

There is one mere issue with that philosophy. Personally I could care less about sparkledogs. I never visit fanart or fan characters. What I care about is digression. The allowing of sparkledogs digresses from the sites topic, and will only lead to further digression in other areas. I suppose if worse comes to worst, I can teach myself html, as I am already a Lua programmer, open another site and force myself into webmastership, but I'd really rather that not have to be my motivation for learning HTML. The issue is not that we dont like sparkledogs, though many of us dont, but its that sparkledogs are extraneous to Balto. I've heard people site Jenna and Dixie. Jenna is slightly redder then she technically should be, but there are some very sepia huskies in existence, surprisingly close to Jenna's color. Dixie is of the type of dog who would be stereotypically "Beautified" by their owner, in the same class as breeds like teacup poodles etc. Though technically the timing isnt right, It can be more or less assumed that her color is infact artificial. Still, she is a rather extraneous character, and a very poor excuse to allow sparkledogs on. She was at least had a solid color pattern.(not to say I like her design or her character, I dont.)

I don't disagree with you Balto-the-wolf-dog. There are some fan characters that I am appalled to see on the site because of their hideous markings and really bad stories. I say go ahead and create your own Balto legacy, but keep in truth to the films and keep the wolves, dogs and their markings true to real life. Guess that's hard, but really, if one puts his/her heart into it, it really isn't. I guess that's what upsets me most.

Won't have to bother.
There's a new Balto site in production already which Togo started up (along with myself and Wolflux) after the crap on here became unbearable.
