"I just wished they'd gave me a statue too!" said Sparx. "I mean yeah, I didn't give my life to let them reach Malefor or help fight him, but I risked my life almost the entire time to! The only time I didn't was through the burned lands to reach Malefor, and that was cause I was needed to keep the others on the right track."

Cynder sighed. "This is how he always is."

"Only thing we really could, fought for our lives till Malefor's lackies showed up and kidnapped Cynder." said Spyro.

"That wasn't a good day for me, I got kidnapped TWICE in the same day, that we annoying!" said Cynder. "And then Gaul pretty much told me 'join the Dark Master or die', that didn't make it any better."

"It gets kinda crazier," said Spyro. "Then I went to see an ancient dragon to learn how to stop Gaul from ressurecting Malefor, and had to travel to an evil mountain that was home to the Well of Souls."

"That's pretty much our world's version of..." said Cynder. "Uh...I don't know what its called in your world, it's just the place where bad souls go when they die. And Malefor was stuck down there."

"I wish I could say I was getting ready for Malefor to kill me when he got free instead of returning to his side...but I didn't...I accepted Gaul's offer to save myself...good thing I couldn't go through with it..."

Flashback:

Cynder stood in the shadows, listening to Gaul insult Spyro, watching him stand before the Ape King, strong willed, Sparx flitting beside him.

“It’s fitting you should be here tonight.” said Gaul, extending his hand in false hospitality. “As we bare witness to the dawn of a new age! And the failure of your pathetic race of dragons!”

Cynder watched Spyro’s face contort in fury and hatred. “I wouldn’t miss it Gaul.” he responded sarcastically.

Gaul rose from his throne in a fury, pointing his staff at Spyro, green energy pulsing around the tip. “Then please, have a seat!” shouted Gaul, firing a beam of green energy into Spyro.

Cynder cringed as she watched Spyro be drained of his energy and forced to the ground, what was she doing? Could she really go through with this? She listened to Gaul laugh at Spyro. “Foolish dragon! You are no match!”

Spyro didn’t back down, no matter how weak he felt. “I’ve made it this far haven’t I?”

Cynder gasped quietly. He still wouldn’t quit? She’d given up, turned her back on him in hopes to save herself…no…she couldn’t go through with this…no after watching Spyro not give up on her.

“Yes, you’ve been quite elusive.” said Gaul, approaching. “Had I even known that all it would take is your miserable amity for Cynder.” he said, shaking his head in disbelief. “How tragic really.” he said, pointing motioning for Cynder. She knew what she had to do…she flew through the air and tackled Spyro to the ground. “That she should be the one to destroy you!”

Cynder flew over Spyro and landed. She heard Sparx yell something, probably directed towards her, that he knew this would happen or the like. “You don’t need to do this, Cynder…” said Spyro, standing up.

Cynder faked a threatening stance and got close. ‘You’re right I don’t!’ thought Cynder. “Just like old times, huh Spyro?” she asked, as menacing as possible, getting closer. “Same as last time! Line me up with his staff!” she whispered so Gaul didn’t see. Spyro understood and the two dragons circled one another. When the staff was in sight, she took off, Spyro ducking as she went overhead and made a beeline for Gaul’s staff.

Unfortunately, Gaul saw her coming and pulled out of the way and caught the tiny dragon by the neck, pulling her up to his face. “This isn’t over!” yelled Gaul.

The next thing Cynder knew, she was thrown through the air and felt the back of her head smash into cold hard stone, after a sudden rush of pain through her head, everything went black.

"So I got smacked against the wall and knocked out," said Cynder. "Then Spyro and Gaul fought it out...I feel so guilty about deciding to side with Gaul because of what happened next."
