Rue followed Vetch and NOok, who was stioll looking like he was in shock. She was glad to get out of their grasp, for like, the third time. They really had to get home, and soon.

When Nook was less-numb, Vetch dropped him so he could run on his own. "Rue." Vetch said, "I think I know why that lizard let us go! He could've been captured too, and in an attempt to sabotage the prison, he pretended to be one of them! What do you think?"

"I think you've been spying on me."

"Hey, it's him!" Nook cheered as he spotted the lizard behind them. His smile dropped when he added, "Oh no, it's him!" then ran faster and jumped onto Vetch's back.

"Nook! He's not like the rest," she said. "We haven't been spying," Rue assured him, not breaking in her long and fast strides.

"I know you weren't spying!" the black lizard assured. "I'm just saying that's exactly why I'm here. To help others escape!"

"Finally someone who doesn't poke us with electric sticks!" Rue said, practically to herself, still feeling the numbness that came from a shock that strong. It made her legs jarr against the floor with every step.

"Very funny." the black lizard said sardonically. "My name is Darryl by the way. And take the next right hallway; it leads to the exit."

Rue's claws skidded on the floor as she heeded his directions.

"Now go!" Darryl yelled. "I hear more soldiers coming!" And with that, right as the trio headed out the door, what seemed like hundred of soldiers piled on top of Darryl, stabbing and clawing at the center of it.

Vetch stopped running to turn around and look sympathetically at the rebel who helped them escape.

Rue also felt sorry for Darryl, but it wouldn't be any help to him if they got caught again. "Come on Vetch!" she called, slowing slightly.

"We can't just leave him!" Nook pleaded. "If it wasn't for him, we'd be toast!" with that, he bolted back to where the pile of lizards were on Darryl.

"Nook! No!" yelled Vetch, but it was too late.

"Nook!" Rue yowled closely after Vetch, filled with worry for her friend, who was normally easily cowed and backed off. Not now though. He barreled towards them like there was no tomorrow. Which for them, there very well couldn't, who knew.

Nook knocked out one of the smaller ones, but when he realized what he was doing, he lost his momentum. A silver lizard grabbed Nook by the tail, and they all laughed hysterically as they shocked him over and over with their thundersticks, Nook spazzing every time.

Rue leapt at the nearest one, her claws instantly dricing into his neck, killing him. Her clawsand muzzle were dripping crimson again as she turned to the next one, her muzzle raised in a gory snarl.

Nook bolted away from the scene, trying to hide behind Vetch.

But Vetch was already gone. He was killing the lizards with Rue and freeing Darryl... but it was too late for Darryl. There he lay, a martyr. "We're too late." Vetch yelled after Rue. "We should get out of here! If we don't Darryl's actions and death would have been in vain! Let's get out of this place!"

Rue nodded, looking at his still body, anger washing away her sorrow toward the martyr that saved their lives. She wrenched her gaze away from Darryl. She ran after Vetch.
