An idea snapped into her head and she said, "You might not, but, I still have those extra ones!" She said and got the the three ropes she had made when they were first starting their journey, " Here, we can use these!" she said and they crossed the river with the ropes tied to them.

Helga's rope, however, got caught on a sharp rock and snapped. With a yelp, he was washed away from Mike and Jamie down stream.
Mike cried out if frustration.
"Helga! We have to rescue her!"

"I'll go! I'm responsible for it." Jamie said and swam after her and got her onto shore and took her back to Mike. Her fur was batted in water and she was so soaked, that even if she shook the water, it wouldn't go away. She set Helga down and thought to herself, Please be alive please

Helga was extremely still. It took her a moment to choke up a good chestful of water, then she went limp again. The sudden shock of the cold water had locked her muscles and slowed her heart.
Mike went up next to the fox and lie down next to her. He wrapped is thick tail around her to try to warm her up.

Jamie put half of her body on Helga covering up her body saying, " It's ok. We'll make it through this Helga. We will. I know it." She said and a tear silently flowed down her cheek.

It had now been almost an hour since the incedent happened. Helga awoke slowely and looked groggily around her. Her two friends were lying on either side of her, keeping her warm. What had happened? Helga remembered everything until crossing the river. Sure, she remembered getting in the fast moving water, but the next moment she was where she was then.
"Wh...what happened?"

Helga shivered again.
"I don't know what happened. I thought we were crossing alright, but the next moment I'm here."
"Helga, the rope snapped. Jamie rescued her."
Mike was also at Helga's side, assisting Jamie in keeping her warm.
"Why can't we ever seem to catch a break, Jamie?"

She chuckled a bit and said, " I don't know. I just don't know." She said. She then huffed and told her the good news, " We crossed Helga. You just don't know it. We thought you crossed with us, but it turns out, you didn't." She said.

"Oh no, Helga," Mike answered, "You must get your strenght back up. We all should. We seem to be safe enough in here. Lets stay a few days."
"My dear. I was simply asking a question. By the way, have you seen any other animal down here?"

Mike nodded then watched his girlfriend walk off down the path. He had a bad feeling about the abyss since he first set eyes on it. It felt...dead at the bottom. Sure there were small, scraggely vegitation, but it was oddly silent. Not even birdsong. Plus, Mike had seen canyons before, and thats what he had called them. Why had Helga chosen the word 'Abyss'? Something was absolutely not right.
Helga suddenly tried to stand, but went into a fit of shivers, groaning softly.
Mike panicked. He settled down beside his fox friend again and let out a long howl.
