Excactly. Just tell those stubborn, arrogant people out there who will turn round and say "Tell that to the kid that got its face ripped off by a Pit Bull who was on a lead with his owner". Of course, the papers exaggerate this. IT IS all down to the owner/handler/trainer whatever you want to call it. If only people would realize this....

Yep it's all the owner, pitbulls take longer to "mature" so you have to keep training them until there about 3 or 4 years old, if you stop at 6 months in, then it wont be properly trained and you can't blame it for attacking people..

Yup. It's best to socialize them with both children and other dogs from a young age too. That way they get used to having them around. That's why Diesel was so very friendly. He was brought up from 8 weeks old with a five-year-old child.. or at least I think that's how old she was at the time and every other weekend he had Archie and my dad's dog visiting.

Yeah, if the dog has never been around a child before then you really can't judge what it will do. Even if your dog has been around children though, I wouldn't leave them alone.. Come on.. that was just a really stupid thing to do..

The Dalmatian that I think I mentioned here in an earlier post, if not here then elsewhere attacked my neighbour's dog yesterday afternoon.
This Dalmatian that the family has had for about three years now from a puppy is known to be aggressive so they have to keep it on a lead. Why's it so aggressive?
1. Because they haven't socialized or trained it and kept it shut in the house all day.
2. The kids are allowed to play alone with it and the youngest boy plays a lot of rough and tug-of-war games with it, therefore teaching it that violence is good.
Anyway, my neighbour, or at least the man who lives two doors down from us (Shack) has two beautiful black labradors. They're hunting dogs but because they've been trained properly (they are actually so obediant that it's amazing!) they're lovely around kids and most other dogs. The dalmatian that lives on the other side of the MAIN road outside our house somehow got loose and out of their garden, came charging across the road and straight towards Shack and his two labradors.
I didn't hear about this until this morning when my dad said that the younger labrador was taken to the vet to be treated for minor bites. Apparently the dalmatian had attacked the labs and the older defended the younger one. Shack couldn't stop the dalmatian because he had both of his labs on the lead and they were getting all upset about the dalmatian. The younger lab should be ok but the owner's of the dalmatian never gave a proper apology.
Just goes to show that it's ANY dog breed that can attack.

Aww, that's sweet. I guess they didn't practice having him around other dogs when he was a pup, then. That would have been a smarter thing to do. Well, atleast the lab was okay. If he wasn't, I would have sued them for sure. People who stereo-type pitbulls have to learn that dog-agression and people-agression are 2 different things. So even if their pitbull attacked another dog, doesn't mean it will attack humans. But most pitbull shelters don't have same-sex adoptions 'cause 2 male pitbulls will be more agressive towards eachother then 1 male and 1 female.... That was off-topic but just thought I'd mention that.

Yeah, it was. They get on really well.
Turns out my Aunt's Pit Bull wasn't a purebred. I was talking to her about him, mainly trying to find out who she gave him to and she said that he was a mixed breed; Staffy/Pit Bull cross. If he'd have been a purebred then she'd have to have a license for him.

Well, according to Wikipedia, Staffy's are pitbulls, since pitbull isn't a real breed..
This really nice lady who lives around here - her name is Barbie, she's almost 24 and she has 3 kids - might get a pitbull/mastiff cross from her kids dad 'cause his pitbull just had puppies. I told her that if she gets one, I would help her raise and train it, since I've done alot of research and own a pitbull cross myself. So if she does get it, I'll take pictures and show you

Oh yeah, bit of confusion there XD
He was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier/Pit Bull cross. Another name for a Pit Bull, or else the real name, is the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I think...
Yes, she said that her relatives that she got him from have two Pit Bulls that they keep penned up because they're like double troube but she has licenses for them and she's only allowed to take them out with a muzzle and lead even though they are really friendly. I still think that my aunt was supposed to have a license but Diesel did look more like a Staffy than a Pit Bull and they're legal. It's horrible... dogs being punished for their appearance!
This is from the Dogs Trust website, concerning Pit Bulls:

Well where I live, no matter what breed your dog is, you have to get it a license before it turns 6 months old. It's stupid, I know..
That's really mean, if the pitbulls really wanted to they could just break the muzzles. I doubt the people who made that rule would like to wear muzzles all the time... Oh well, I'm getting a pitbull if they like it or not, and I wont make it wear a muzzle. XD Oh and I'll look at that site.

That's what most people I know do who own Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes. I know about four or five people in my area who own really sweet Pits. They have strong harnesses and have to keep them on leads but they don't have the hearts to muzzle them.

Good, that's just a little harsh. Once the dog is 3 or 4 years old and has had proper training it has NO need for a muzzle. All of the pitbull killings that I hear of are mostly young pups, not many younger then 10 months old..

Yeah, I know that's right. I've got a bullmastiff-german shepherd mix, and I can't even count the times he's torn my chain length fence in two. Don't get a pitbull unless you have the room and the spare time.
