Yeah. I like the idea of a Balto 0, but then anybody who's read my story "Balto: Son" knows that.
I wrote that story to try to explain the various different elements presented first in Balto, and then in Balto 2 and 3. First the white wolf is no relation to Balto, but then in Balto 2 they say she's Balto's mother - and also the great wolf spirit. Who can turn into other forms like a raven.
So then why was Balto abandoned in Nome as a puppy if his mother is the great wolf spirit? Who was his father? If Aniu is a spirit, how was it possible to have a pup? And what could possibly cause her to abandon Balto in Nome?
So I took all these sort of incongruous elements and tried to patch them together in a way that would explain it all. The link to my stories is in my sig if you're interested. But I imagine any film that tried to do the same thing would have to take a similar approach. At least if they wanted to keep the canon from both the 1st and 2nd films intact.
