John furrowed his eyebrows at Maya's bark, obviously trying to decipher it. If he wasn't able to understand her as a reptile, he sure as heck wouldn't be able to get what she was saying now that he was human again... for now. He could only guess that it was one of happiness, since it didn't come out as a growl or whimper. It sounded more like a yip to him, so this is what he took it as. Lucky for him he wasn't wrong. It took more time for him to figure out what exactly she could have said. He remembered that when he had been trying to talk to them as a dinosaur, it came out as raspy growls.

Obviously, when Maya or Marie talked, their own vocal cords came into play. Erm... hm... it took him longer still, as he walked cautiously beside Maya, to remember that they were searching for a way to turn back to normal. He mentally face palmed himself for not being able to think of the idea earlier. If what had turned him human was thinking of his past memories... then the trigger could be just thinking of yourself, the way you were before you shifted. He turned to Maya and said, hoping she would understand, "You have to think of when you're human... wish to be human again. I don't know how long it lasts, but it works for now."

After this, he attempted to make hand signals. He pointed to his head as if to say 'think', and then gestured to his whole body, trying to say through signs that you have to think about being human. At last he pointed to her and then to Maria and shook his head. He hoped that Maya got the message whether through words or through hand signals, and all of a sudden John was overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude. Just being able to talk to one another without hassle... was probably the greatest gift of all.
