"Yup. Well, now that that's done, we should probably get some sleep before the sun comes up---and who knows how soon that could be!"

Rue nodded. "Yeah. And tomorrow we can began looking for our family," she added, hopeful that they would find them soon.

Setsuko nodded. "I'd like that," she said. "I'd really like that." And with those remarks, she wrapped herself up in the old blanket, Jaci nearby, and drifted away into a light snooze, happy thoughts of her family flickering throughout her mind.

Rue sat against the wall, feeling tired but unable to ger her mind to shut down. She had been able to escape many bad situations before, but most of the time with her family. Now she had been seperated from them. As her eyes slowly drifted shut, she really, really hoped they weren't as far away as it seemed.

Cracks of pale sunlight beamed through the knots and holes of the old wooden cabin, tickling at Setsuko eyelids until they finally lifted. She stirred slightly with a soft groan of protest, but once up, she found it hard to go back to sleep. She sat up slowly, the faded old blanket falling off her chest.

Rue woke to the slight rustling noises of Setsuko waking up. Suppressing a gentle yawn, she threw the blanket off. She shivered as whatever breeze entered the cracks of the walls brushed against her skin, and rubbed her arms with her hands. "Morning," she mumbled to Setsuko.

Bump.

"Mmm," grumbled Setsuko. She refused to move for another few seconds, but then, realizing that with the sun now on her face, it would be impossible to sleep, she roused slowly. "M...mornin'," She replied groggily. "Oi, what an uncomfortable night!"

It certainly wasn't as nice as Rue's bed, but when compared to a sewer tunnel or a tree, it could've been worse. Though she did have some complaints about the floorboards creaking. So she nodded. "Yeah, it definitely wasn't the best place I've ever slept. It could've been worse though," she added with a shrug.

She shook some lingering dust out of her wings, then sneezing softly. "I guess we should start looking for our family, huh?" she said, eager to find her parents, get her bearings. Her empty stomach interrupted that train of thought, and her cheeks flushed a pale pink. "Or maybe we could find some food first?" she suggested.

Setsuko opened her mouth to reply, but her stomach beat her to it with a loud growl. She blushed slightly. "Ahm...food first," she replied with an awkward, but fairly lighthearted smile.

Rue shared the smile. "We can look for some food in the forest," she suggested. "There are probably some berries or something."

"Ok," replied Setsuko, "But I still think it would be a good idea to find water. We could fish there, too."

Food had been the first thing on Rue's mind, considering she needed a minimum of 3000 calories a day, but Setsuko was right; water was important. Probably more important than food, actually. "You're right...water should actually be our first priority. I can go get a bird's eye view, see if anything is nearby," she offered.

"Whenever you're ready," Setsuko retorted, reaching for her glider.

Rue walked through the sagging door frame, the brisk morning air refreshing and bright. She stretched her tawny wings and started to run, gaining momentum. Using the speed, she allowed her wings to catch the air, and she was soon in the familiar pale blue sky.

Glancing down at Setsuko, she still marveled at the fact that someone, without wings at all, could fly. It made her feel...normal? That was something she hadn't felt in a while...living on the run and spending weeks on end in a dog crate being poked and prodded made it hard to feel like she fit in anywhere outside of her family.
