The lights all of a sudden flashed back on, and every huge black lizard was pointing some kind of weapon at them. Spears, swords, guns, unidentify-able things, the whole works.

Nook fainted.

"This sucks," Rue said, feeling Nook collapse beside her. She said this in a cajoling tone, staring warily at the multitudes of weapons pointed at the recently healed, and still healing Vetch, the annoyed and spotted Rue, and the collapsed and scared Nook.

"Does it?" said one of the black lizards. This one was holding a spear. "You know that we have the right to kill you whenever we want, right?"

"Hey," rasped Vetch. "You can talk normal and your face expression changes!"

"Yeah." said the black lizard. "What do you want? A medal?"

"Shut it." the black lizard snapped. "I can kill you right now, and I may even get promoted. Start begging."

Rue wasn't exactly sure how to respond to that. Beggin was not going to happen, but the whole death thing was looming over her like a dead weight, and no response, well, it coould work either way. In the end, she threw him a withering glance, staying silent.

"Have it your way." the black lizard jeered as he brought his spear down with amazing force, the others following suit.

Vetch pulled Rue out of the way just in time and held onto Nook with his tail, then ran. Once he reached the door, he let Rue back on her feet and used his fangs to cut the hinges off and escape. "Come on!" Vetch yelled as loud as his aching throat could bear.

Rue ran through the now ripped doors, positive that the lizards were about to slice her in half.

Vetch put the scruff of Nook's neck in his mouth and ran after Rue. The black lizards were close behind, with all their knick-knack-paddy-wack weapons. Vetch tripped over his own feet and dropped Nook, who was now awake and afraid. Vetch landed on his stomach, paws outstretched, completely vulnerable.

One black lizard stepped his gigantic foot on Vetch to hold him still. Another immense black lizard held a sword against Vetch's neck, then brought it behind his head and was about to cut Vetch's head right off.

"NO!" Nook screamed as he tried to bite the lizard's leg, which distracted him.

Rue leapt at the lizard who held Vetch down, slaying him quickly. She stood over Vetch protectivly.

Nook let go of the dead lizard's leg, and he growled at any of them that came too close. They weren't afraid of him; but the gigantic wild cat behind him: Rue

Vetch pushed himself up on his feet, managing a, "Thanks, Rue," before standing and showing off his saber fangs at the lizards.

"No problem," Rue panted, lifting a bloodied pair of claws threateningly, ready to gut anything that came to close. SHe looked rabid with her bloodied muzzle and dripping claws, her violet eyes hard.

There were six black lizards left, one the lizard that could change his facial expression and not talk like a robot. Suddenly, that particular black lizard whipped around and stabbed one of his colleagues in the stomach. He fought all the other five, killing each one of them.

"What the-" said Nook, superfluously confused.

Rue cocked her head, now confused. She dropped her paw, but kept her claws extended, just in case. Maybe he wouldn't attack them next, maybe he would, but for now, she was just baffled.

"What are you standing around here for?!" the lizard said in his teenage boy voice. "I thought you guys needed to escape! Get outta here!"

"I don't know what's going on," Vetch rapsed, "But I know he's letting us go, so let's go!" He grabbed the dumbstruck Nook and ran away.
