She has always been so giften at art. an old friend of mine who runs back more than 5 years of knowing each other. she is currently working on designs for Baloo and becky (rebecca) and believe me her art will make your eyes come out of theur sockets. She will probably make her first post tomorrow and also post some of the art she has already produced.

Can't wait to see that :) And that's great news!

I'd like to do some co-writing; I can take someone's story and develop it further. I started working on two graphic novels of my own so I could use the practice on an established series I grew up with, with complex characters I'm familiar with. I am also almost done with college (part-time now) so I have some time.

And another great news! Especially since we needed help on the writing side.

Quote:
1) The VS should operate on the premise of what Jymn Magon and/or Mark Zaslove would do if Disney asked them to revive the series. To me, that would be a blend of lightheartedness and character development moving towards story arcs. The two-parter A Bad Reflection on You would be a great example of this. Not too light, but not too dark.

I believe this is the main objective, though not a simple one.

Quote:
2) The VS should probably be kept as a web comic for now. Like a comic strip but perhaps using computer modeling for the Sea Duck and objects in the background. Could something like Google SketchUp be utilized? We could also use computer coloring and shading for the characters as well, like I've seen with some of the artwork. I think the emphasis needs to be placed on good stories without piling so much work on everyone that nothing ever gets done. Simple to start with for now.

I think it's still uncertain on how exactly the VS will become (fanfic, screenplay, video animation...?) so maybe a comic could be an option too.
Or maybe we could do a little of each...depending on the episodes maybe? Some may be better as fanfics and others better as comics.

Quote:
3) I thought the best moments of TaleSpin emphasized flight and the vastness of the sky, dogfights, pirates, and all. To me, personally, I thought TaleSpin suffocated under extended scenes in Cape Suzette (not including H4H) which didn't involve flight. DuckTales was better suited for that.

Really? Can't say I feel the same. Do you have examples?
To me one of the best part of Talespin is that it's not ONLY action, not ONLY adventure, not ONLY comical, but a mix of everything.

Quote:
4) New or one-off characters should probably be kept to a minimum to start off with... let the original characters of the series have a chance to breath again.

I agree with that one, there is more than enough characters to be exploited from the original series. Though sometimes we need "fresh" ones because existing characters may not fit in new stories.

Quote:
5) I was always under the impression that in the TaleSpin world, there are vast, unexplored continents and civilizations isolated from one another. Maybe it's a Super Earth or something, who knows. Cape Suzette seemed to be more of a city-state rather than just another city in a country (which made it all the more interesting to me). They never even seemed to have heard of Panda La, with Baloo pretty much a shoe-in for Marco Polo. Imagine how the world was largely unknown in the 15th century and apply that to the TaleSpin world.

5) For #5 above, this definitely steers the VS in the direction of adventure, but I think it needs to be within the parameters of what TaleSpin does best, which I emphasized in #3. That's what differentiates TaleSpin's adventures from those in DuckTales.

Interesting, it's true that Cape Suzette seem like a country on his own. Probably to avoid having to develop other cities and confuse the viewers.

Quote:
6) The Internet has evolved so much and computer modeling and graphics have been streamlined enough that I can see the VS being feasible.

Not sure to understand that one : do you mean that we have easier tools to make this work better than it could have some years ago?

Just a quick comment. According to Jymn Magon, Cape Suzette is part of a country called Usland. No, Usland was never officially mentioned in the series or in the comics. It was something that Jymn Magon said in an interview.

It's named Usland, because TaleSpin was set in the 1930s, during a Cold War with Thembria, which is obviously the cartoon version of the USSR. Usland...Thembria. Us versus Them. Very clever, IMO.

Yes, true. Although we don't see any other city from Usland in the show (as far as I know?)

BTW, glad to see you here, Ann :)

First thing to do is just explore the personalities of every character and then list what made the best episodes of TaleSpin great. Then find good plot premises.

Fanfics have been done enough the past 10 years that we need a new avenue for this project. Plus we need something that is easily accessible to others. Also, we can use writing to focus on the characters when we use pictures to describe details rather than words. Eclipse's "A Tear in the Sweater" would look great as a web comic.

I looked at the storyboards for A Bad Reflection On You that are available on here and honestly, that format would be a good start.

I agree, I was referring to the setting rather than the genre.

Of course, one-off characters.

Pretty much, not only easier but easily accessible tools.

I see Cape Suzette as a city-state within Usland. Didn't Jymn also say something about Usland being largely unexplored?

I have an idea for a plot premise, where should I share it at?

You mean something taken from the VHS-rip and pasted onto a DVD...not an official one.

To straycloud:

First of all, welcome! I'm glad you're interested in working on the VS! I agree with pretty much all your points and I'm looking forward to our collaboration on writing tasks. I'm in the process of writing a mission statement for the VS to outline its intentions and goals; that should be posted in the next few days. Thanks again for your interest; I'll be in touch.

To everyone else:

I know I haven't posted here in awhile... I've been busy lately but I haven't forgotten about the project. I really want this project to be a success and I'll try to post as often as I can, so please bear with me. Thanks!

Good deal. I'll talk to you about it early next week... I'm tied up right now.

This will be good practice for my other writing projects.

Hello all,

I couldn't wait to sign up for this forum after reading about the virtual season project. TS was one of my favorite shows growing up and I thought it ended far too quickly, as I'm sure many of you here agree. There was so much potential for character development, new adventures, story arcs, etc that were never explored...but that is food for another thread.

So I am really interested in this project and would like to help out if I could. I'd like to help out on the writing side and am trying to throw some scripts together to post here and get some feedback. I am also not terrible at drawing, and could help out if there is a need, but I would probably be more suited to doing backgrounds and the like than the main characters.

I do have a question, and that is are we at the point where we should start really spreading the word about this project? On another page about the VS project I saw the production team was less than twenty people. I bet there are a lot more TS fans out there who happen to be talented artists/writers, that also would be willing to spend some time on this. The more people the better I think; most of us are not full time animators/writers so this is a side project for us. I can see a lot of work ahead but if we get enough people involved I can see this project being successful.

BTW some of the sketches you guys posted are incredible!

Let me know your thoughts!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I'm glad you're interested in contributing to the VS, we certainly can use the help! If you want to share story ideas, you can do so here. Right now the writing team only has two writers, so I'll be happy to have you on board as the third member of the writing team. We also need background artists, but not as bad as we need writers. Once a few episodes are written, they will be passed on to the artists. Since the work will be done in phases, you can help with both writing and art. Actually, several people on the project will be wearing multiple hats.

As for spreading the word about the project, I had thought about that as well. The plan (at least at the moment) is to complete the 2nd pilot and use it as a tool to advertise the project and attract more volunteers. Also the idea of making a promotional video to post on a high traffic site like youtube has been discussed. Those are only a few ways the VS could be advertised, so if you have any ideas or suggestions, please post them.

Again, welcome and thanks for your interest in the project! I'll be in touch.

Yes, thanks for your interest; I'm glad that there are regularly and progressively more newcomers to the project
