From inside the den, Cerenus was interupted from his thoughts by a noise from outside. He started. Kat? He looked behind him to see if everyone was alseep, then stood. Tam? He took a tentative step towrds the mouth of the cave.

Sainiu whinced softly as the sounds continued. She turned around to see Cerebus at the foot of the den. She smiled softy "I hear walking ... in the distance, I don't know what it is though.."

Tentitivly, Cereubs took a step forwards. Pausing, he listened to his surroundings, lifting his nose to the air and sampling it. It...it was a vaguly familiar scent. He soundlessly padded out of the den and stopped next to Sainiu. He noticed the way she stood alertly, poised to turn at the slightest sound. Now, this seemed familiar..."In your old pack," He waited for Sainiu to look at him, "...what was your rank?"

Sainiu looked slightly towards Cerebus. "I'm the alpha of my pack.." she said softly, her eas folding back slightly. She lifted her head towards the sky, sniffing softly, her feet twitching at the want to go down and find out what had been there, but she knew she should stay.

Cerebus nodded inwardly. As I thought... He sat down. "...So you're alpha, eh?" He shook his head. "I was wondering why they wanted you dead...," he afirmed quietly. He pinned his ears back, remembering. ".........Do you think those wolves will attack them? your family, I mean. They seemed...ruthless." He became very quiet, staring at nothing, lost in thought.

Sainiu thought about his question for a few moments. "They have" she started, "Just Angel, the leader, usally sends a few wolves at a time, never a full pack and never over three wolves." She looked over her shoulder, at Tamirat. "They might attack you guys if they figure out Tam's my brother.." she said under her breath, mostly to herself.

"Well, they already have, haven't they?" Cerebus relpyed grimly. He turned back to Sainiu, sizing her up. After a while he spoke again, "No offense, but...you don't really strike me as much of a leader." He shruged after another [pause. "But then, I don't know you that well. Were your parents alive when you became leader?" He had a dull and semi-detatched undertone to his voice.

"My parents are still alive," she said, looking to him. She shook her head softly "I don't know why, or how I became the alpha.." she said softly, her voice suddenly softer "My uncle, Toxic just picked me, hoping I could bring his pack, and the lands back to peace..." Sai sat down gracfully, not making a sound.

Cerrebus nodded thoughtfully. A small smile made an appearence on his muzzle. "...If anyone can do that, I'd bet you could." He looked meaningfully into Sai's eyes, then averted his gaze. "They shouldn't come back again." He spoke suddenly, feircely, refering to Angel's pack. "i wouldn't...if I were them..." His eyes became dark.

"Thanks." Sainiu let out a small yawn, then lowered her head and scratched her muzzle with her paw. From there, she slowly slid down so she was laying down, she crossed her front paws over each other, laying her head down -- but her fangs hit the ground first, making it look like she still had it up.

Cerebus herad a -thunk- and turned to look at the brown female. He shook his head exasperatedly when he noticed her fangs supporting her head. He sighed. " 'Night. No doubt I'll be back out here...I jump at any noise these days..." He turned and padded back into the den, leaving Sainiu to guard the den alone.

Sainiu watched him go, with out moving her head just her eyes. Once he was out of her sight she shifted her position slightly. "Night," she whispered lamely.

Cerebus re-entered the damp cave, carefull not to make much noise. The way it was so still in the cave, he was sure everyone was asleep.

"What was it?" Viola lifted her head over the heaving body of Demon, which glowed fainlty in the starlight. Her eyes seemed uninterested. but a cockyness shone beneath them.

Cerebus started. He thought for sure she was asleep. He grudgingly answered, "It was nothing...just some forest animals..." He settled down carefully and shut his eyes securely.

Viola repositioned herself so she was resting on her front legs. "...You sure that wasn't all...?" Her voice ended in a high, prying note, a suggestive undertone apparent.

Cerebus refused to answer, and instead consectrated on the gentle breathing of everyone around him until he too fell asleep.

* Sainiu had been laying that way for the rest of the night, she squinted her eyes as the sun peaked through the trees. Slowly she got up and shook out her fur and yawned loudly. She turned around to face the sleeping two and the den, to see who would rise first.

Katmai's green yees flashed open when she detected movemet, but she relaxed after realizing it was Sainiu. She stretched her long limbs and shook her dense fur. "Good morning Sai!" she said bubbly. "...Wait, I thought Tam was suposed to do night guard?" She bit her lip and kicked Tam in the ribs.

Rudely awakened, Tam let out a yelp. He could still feel where Kat's hooves had been and knew a bruise would soon follow. "What was that for?"

"You were supposed to wake me for night watch so Sainiu could sleep!" She usually never used violence to demonstrate her point, and she refrained from doing so, slightly regreting kicking Tam as he gingerly sat up and pinned his ears back.

Squinting in the sunlight he explained, "I know, but she was up anyways. Sainiu is perfectly capale of guarding the den at night." He huffed and stood up, grumbling, and headed into the forest.

Kat still still felt bad for making Sainiu stay up all night, but Tam was slower to forgive than her. "Sorry, Sai," she threw her a smal smile,"I'd better go see if he'll still talk to me by luncjime, "she sighed and trotted off.
