Carmen jabbed at a spot on the map. "Here's one." she announced. "It's no longer in use, but they didn't fill in the caves and the cabins are still standing. Sounds good to me."

Tara stirred on Chase's lap, still deep in sleep, but clenching her eyes shut and quietly repeating, "Momma..." and clutching Chase's shirt.

Carmen glanced in the rearview at the girl, then turned to Dymitri. "When you back out of here take a right."

A silent tear rolled down Tara's cheek as her nightmare progressed. She took in a sharp breath in her sleep and squirmed a bit.

Carmen flipped the map over. "There's information about all the landmarks on here."

Tara still slept deeply, but her dreams continued to taunt her. "Leave her.... alone..." she mumbled.

Carmen squinted and read. "Yeah," she replied, "It says this field shut down in '81, when a whole mountainside collapsed. It says even though no other formation has budged since the evactuation, no one dares to step foot in it. Sounds perfect; it's abandoned, there'll be no one bugging us, and it also says every sleeping cavern is still there."

"Sure it's safe." Carmen shrugged. "If worse comes to worse, we'll ditch the caves and stay in the sleeping quarters."

Instead of waking up, Tara clenched her eyes shut tighter, balling her hands into fists. Shards of air whipped around them like knives. "Let my momma go..." she growled in her sleep.

Carmen nodded, then looked in the rearview mirror. "Everything okay back there?"

The air whipping around Tara became harsher and more angry as tears streamed down her cheeks as she unknowingly reached up and knocked Chase in the jaw. It was a weak punch, however, but it was filled with raw rage. "Let her go!" she screamed through her sleepwalkish state.

Tara finally snapped her eyes open, as if realizing what she had done. The air around her slowly faded, and she immediately hugged around his neck and kissed his cheek. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it, it wasn't for you, I'm sorry..." Tears still streamed down her cheeks as she apologized.

Tara hugged him tighter, burying her face in his neck. "Those people who took my momma..." she choked out. "She controlled air like me, and I don't know where they took her."
