Temple stared up at Ruger for a long moment, before bowing her head in defeat.

"Lets go." Calico whispered to Ruger.

Ruger started walking out and asked in a very low voice so that Calico was the only one to hear him "Do you think I made the right decision with Temple, Cal?"

"I'm sure you did." Calico said softly. "Now, lets go."

Ruger nodded his head and exited Calypso's hiding place. He looked around, looking at all of the dogs he rounded up which would count up to about forty dogs, while asking "What do you think Calico? Is it big enough to make your father accept my challenge when I challenge him?"

"Of course it is. Rex had about 35 at the time I was in it. But then... dogs have been born since then, and dogs had died. All in all, there should be abot the same ammount as us." Calico said while walking.

Ruger nodded his head and said to the pack of dogs "Come with us and we will end this tyranny." Ruger looked at Calico worriedly and asked sincerely while walking towards Rex's hideout with the pack following "Are you ready to face our demon from our past, Calico?"

Calico took a deep breath. "I really don't have a choice, do I? But I'm ready."

Ruger said "You always have a choice, Calico, but I'm glad that you and I are both ready to face Rex." Once he got to the entrance of the hideout, he motioned for his dogs to stop. He yelled as loud as he could "Come out, Rex!!!!! I challenge you to a fight for leadership of both our packs!!!!!!!"

Rex padded slowly out of the tunnel a crane put there long ago. He stared at Ruger. "I will fight."

Ruger bowed his head in acknowledgment and said calmly "So be it." He faced and snarled at Rex while walking around him, looking for a weak point.

Rex watched Ruger carefully, a taint of fear deep in his eyes.

Ruger kept on circling Rex and asked "Are you afraid of me, Rex? Are you afraid of dying?"

"No." he rasped. Rex wouldn't admit it, but he knew that he was getting old. He was 9 years, and knew he only had 3 left. He lunged at Ruger and landed smoothly on his shoulders.

Ruger rolled, knocking Rex off of his back, and attempted to bight Rex.

Rex saw Ruger lunging for his leg, and dodged quickly, and bit at the black labs ear swiftly.
