HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT YOU WOULD SMILE IF BALTO DIED??[/color] Plus: I know a lot of people are saying that its no big deal cuz its just a cartoon but its actually a BIG deal cuz the REAL Balto probably already died dince the stuff that happened happened around 1925. A dog cant live more than 20 human years, but the balto movies are important cuz they keep the spirit of Balto alive. and if they make him die in the film whenever we watch the earlier movies, we will remember that he is going to die soon in another film. I know it sounds untrue, but trust me. I know this for a fact. Owned by a golden retreiver. I have a few questions for you. If you say you have no compassion for Balto then why are you on this website?? And one more thing. This is for a lot of people. ALL of you who are saying Balto is just a cartoon, you are horribly wrong. Balto was a REAL dog. You can't change that. I n the movie he may be a fictional character but he really is real.

Seems I've got a bit of explaining to do, huh? JerseyCaptain wrote: Well, as some folks said earlier, a dramatic death, done well, could be very impressive and effective on-screen,
However, I think you're underestimating the effect a powerful, well-written fictional character, like the cartoon Balto, can have on audiences. The character has indeed made a substantial impact, thus the fan base. And the death of that character, done well or not, would affect a lot of people. There is no reason to trivialize that, whether directly or subtley.
And even if an animated character cannot have any real feelings or emotions, it can give the illusion of such in how it is written and acted. Keep that in mind too. That is what makes the character of Balto (the fictional one) so endearing to so many people. You make valid points. However, I'm going to make a boring statement and say this: I can respect that some would grieve Balto's cartoony demise, though I also have every right to say "I wouldn't care" without being pounced repeatedly. I'm not saying you are, because you're not, though I can't say that to everyone here. Togo wrote: If you don't have any feeling for any character of any film, why di you even watch them? Because I can't pick up a DVD and think "Jeez, I'm not going to feel anything for these characters, better not watch this." And please refrain from twisting my words. I never said I don't have any feeling for any character of any film. I said I wouldn't howl and moan if Balto died. Balto_courage wrote: Owned by a golden retreiver. I have a few questions for you. Question one: Good question. Honest to God, I don't know. Question two, which isn't a question: Yes, he was a real dog, but this is a topic in regards to the cartoon Balto's death. Edit: This isn't to say I've never been moved by a fictional character's death. While reading the Tomorrow series by John Marsden, I was absolutely crying my eyes out in two certain parts, both of which I still get teary about. However, I never felt any desire to "bite the director's (or in this case, author's) head off". While I'm on that topic, I'll say that Balto isn't the sort of cartoon that would make a death terribly emotional, sorry to say. The aforementioned books were about a war, and so the parts where I was... crying... were naturally much more moving because they were both violent deaths of people who were very very close to the main character (I won't say who died as it'd give away major spoilers).

I mean sure I'd be like "Oh god they killed him off!" but this is cartoon Balto, which Universal has control over so they could do whatever they want. Me being the sort of "I-don't-care-what-you-do-as-long-as-you-don't-bug-me" person I am I wouldn't care that much. Heh, yeah, that pretty much sums up my whole post.

If Balto died.. I'd just be sad.. yep. Sad. But he can't live forever, now can he?

I agree with Deni and Velvet loz. It is just a cartoon. Its an extremely awesome cartoon, but keep in mind that the real Balto died along time ago. Besides, unless your aethiest then death shouldnt be the symbol of the end. Death is just a short parting between the living and the not. You'll see eachother again eventually. And also keep in mind that legends live forever.

Balto is a great character, but I wouldn't be mad at anyone really, his time on earth has to end sooner or later. He won't be dead exactly. He will live forever in out hearts and in Heaven. God bless you, Balto. I agree
