Maya let out a soft whine, pressing her pointed ears tightly against the back of her head. She felt dizzy and confused - so much had happened. She had gone from worrying about a bad grade in biology and how much math homework she had to worrying about how the heck she had turned into a dog, why, and how she was supposed to become human again, all in the space of one brief car ride. It was a bit too much.

Maya glanced at John and Marie, wondering if she could talk. She tried, and found that her mouth, now elongated and skinnier, failed to form the shapes necessary for communication. Her tongue didn't help either. In her anxiety, and had slipped out of her mouth and the tip was gently moving up and down as she panted. So weird. Unable to talk, she simply looked at the two, hoping her gaze would convey the question that occupied her mind; what now?

Luke perked, hearing a growling rumbling bush. He walked over to it, and knelt down, poking into the bush.
"Uh, guys..I think I found another...dog?". He commented seeing James.

At Maya's unspoken question, John desperately thought. Well geez now everyone really will start to call me Slash... came a distracted strand of thinking. He quickly pushed that idea away though and tried again. An idea sparkled his eyes; you could see it from his new expression. He brought his head in between Maya and Maria, signaling that he knew something and wished to share it with them. If only he knew how to convey it... Could he talk and they understand? He knew how to form the words now, but he just couldn't figure out if he could communicate effectively... you know with them being a different species now and all.

He tried to tell them, saying, "Guys, I got an idea," but when he got no response in return, he tried something else. "Can you two understand me? Nod yes or no if you can't say anything..." His voice dropped to a whisper as he began to think this may not work... either it wasn't getting across at all, or the sound waves were just terribly slow. Growling under his breath in frustration, John resorted to a last minute idea. Trying his best to bend his body forward, he attempted carving his huge toe nail claw into the pavement. It was strong enough to get through and not break, so he tried his best to draw a word. Water.

If it was the water that had turned them into these... creatures, then they weren't alone.

He didn't wanthim to think he was friendly, he growled when Luke called him a dog. He was a cat, maybe a really big cat, but a cat. He flattened his small pointed ears to his head.

Maya cocked her head, briefly puzzling over the one tiny word. Her mind soon made the connection to the odd tasting bottled water they'd had earlier. Could that be what had caused this? The nausea and headaches certianly started occuring after the water. She had felt fine before drinking it...could the metallic, almost sickly sweet taste been some sort of weird drug that gae them animal DNA?

Gah, this was crazy! It was almost like a comic book or a cartoon. Weird tasting water making them turn into animals? Insane. Yet somehow, it had happened. And Maya's brain kept coming back to one question; if the water had had some sort of drug in it...who put it there in the first place? Terrorists? Some sort of sick scientists? Was this a weird goverment plot or some other sort of nonsense?

Maya felt paranoid and unsettled, and grew aware that the fur on the back of her neck had risen, giving her a scruffy appearance. Then came a thought; what if someone had seen them? Sitting out here on the sidewalk like this was fairly obvious, and having John turn into a dinosuar didn't help. If they had been spotted, animal control would almost certainly be notified. And that wouldn't end well. Unable to drag a claw through the pavement like John had, she took a few steps away and flicked her fluffy tail, hoping this would convery her "follow me" message.

Marie desperatly tried to listen to what Maya was trying to say, but despite them both being canines, her barks were like a foriegn language to Marie's ears. John's raspy growls and snarls were even worse. Marie began to panic a bit; not being able to communicate was a huge disadvantage! Luckily, she noticed the scratches the John carved into the driveway, but it took her a couple minutes of staring at the marks to finally realize that they were english and they spelled "Water."

The information crashed into Marie, and she cursed herself for not realizing it sooner. Of course it was the water! They had all been talking in front of the vending machine that sold them the water when they got sick. How did she not put it together before? Pulling herself away from her mental scolding, she looked to Maya. Marie instantly recognized the face of fear and concern in Maya's eyes, and Marie knew why. How could the local take to a dinosaur standing in the middle of the street? They were lucky no one had spotted them already.

Understanding Maya's message, Marie yipped her agreement and trotted down the street, glancing over her should to make sure the others were following. She knew a place where they could hide. She tried to tell them that, but it all came out in barks. Frustrated, Marie just continued padding down the road at a faster pace then before, hoping John and Maya trusted her enough to blindly follow.

Nessa jumped a little at the animal's growl, but she came up beside Luke anyways. She knelted down to see into the bush as well, seeing a large brown animal tucked into the bush's leaves. At Luke's dog comment, the animal let out a loud snarl that caused Nessa to fall back into the dirt in fright. She recovered quickly, though. Nessa placed a hand on Luke's arm and said with a shaky voice, "I-I think it's a cat."

Luke stumbled clumsily backwards along with Nessa, practically falling into her lap. He chuckled, and stood back up.
"Yeah, cat." he replied, embarrassed.

James stopped growling, Better he thought. He peered around Luke and Nessa and spotted a huge dog, or wolf. He kept his ears pinned to his head, not sure if he could trust them yet.

José's sharp ears picked up James' growl and he turned his huge head to see the Saber-tooth snarling at a large dog like animal.

Opal stayed in the shade of a large oak tree and groomed herself. She had no time for barking at animals that were at least three times her size. She decided that to keep from getting trampled, she'd stick under the tree.

Nessa picked herself up off the ground and stood beside Luke. "I wonder if he's actually a person too," she thought aloud as she stared at the cat and tried to find the face of a school mate behind the fur.

John had little to nothing to go on, and since he was pretty sure that his two friends could read, considering he was now a prehistoric species and he still could, he decided they got the message. When he saw Maya trying to use body language to get them to follow, at first he had tilted his head. He wasn't well versed in the movements of canines, but as soon as Marie began to follow and pick up the pace, John got what she had meant. He nodded his head crisply, sending his body in motion after them.

Moving this way was a bit of a shock at first. At least he still had too legs, he reasoned. However, he had talons the size of his previous human hand, maybe almost six inches in length. He was still approximately the same size - thank god he hadn't turned into a trex or something. Although his hands were shorter... and the scales were a bit uncomfortable as he shifted his bottom limbs to keep up with his friends. Oh well... he'd have to get used to it, he guessed. If only he could be human again... The thought refused to leave his mind, and in a small yip, he was once again his normal self.

John marveled at his body, staring at his human hands as if they were gold. He was a bit further from the other two, so they probably hadn't heard anything. Neither bothered to look back at the moment, and John had to run quickly to catch up. He managed to get beside Maya, since Marie had been leading at the front. "Maya, look! I'm human again!" He couldn't understand why he had suddenly turned back to his normal self, but he couldn't afford to take advantage of it either. Sooner or later, he would turn back unexpectedly, and he had to be ready when that did actually happen. Little did he know that his desperate plead to become human once more had been the trigger to let him transform.

Excited, Maya's tail swished from side to side. Her ears perked up, brown eyes glinting with hope. "How did you do that?" she asked, the question coming out as an oddly formed bark.
