Well, Ching, it's not unheard of for animals to choose mates which fly in the face of such supposed norms. I read a case, for example, where a male and female cockatiel, both fine specimens, inhabited the same cage for some time. The owners, naturally, hoped they would breed, but nothing happened. Then another female, who was hardly attractive by human or avian standards (she had a tendency to pluck out most of her own feathers) was added, and in no time flat she and the male had a clutch of eggs. I don't remember any mention of the "more attractive" female's reaction to this, but ultimately she stayed eggless. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find such things happen with dogs on occasion as well.

Besides, cat's argument holds about as much water as a wheat sifter. For one thing, when it comes to survivability (which she seems to be implying as the key legitimate basis for choosing a mate), listening to one's parents trumps brute strength almost every time. Just look at what happens to a partridge chick if it doesn't hold still when it's mother signals it to, or doesn't follow her example on where and when to perch or feed. Imagine how long a fox or would would last if, as an infant, it never paid attention when its mother demonstrated how to hunt. The very act of "being "easily persuaded" by "society" (and let's not forget it wasn't Ralph taking a stand against his entire team, even going so far as to turn his back on his lifelong dream to help someone who tried to take his living away from him) which cat mocks is more vital to survival, in the wild or in civilization, than her notions of survival of the fittest could ever be. She just hates Kodi because he's responsible. Ironically, without people who were at least somewhat responsible she wouldn't be alive. Nobody would.

I don't what you're talking about, can you simplify it?

I can try. The first part boils down pretty simply: some animals don't always pick the healthiest, strongest, or most attractive mate (by their standards or ours) available. I don't know if that includes dogs, but it wouldn't surprise me.

As for the second part, cat is quick to ridicule Kodi because he took his job so seriously and because he allowed others to "influence" him "too easily." This falls flat for two reasons. One, both his dedication to his job and his eventual decision to go help Duke were born of a high regard for his parents, which as a rule is far more valuable both among humans and animals than mere brute strength (which cat almost invariably favors when it comes to males in fictional pairings). And two, standing up to one's best friends and basically calling them selfish slackers (which is what his speech to them in the boiler room amounted to), not to mention turning one's back on a lifelong dream career, does not equal "being too easily influenced." He may have started out that way, but he changed.

Now I get it, you're talking about the nature of dogs?

1) You talk too much, and no one's reading what you have to say xD

2) You aren't reading what I have to say simply because it's me, and that's why you're spewing false information about my opinion on Kodi to make it seem like an unreasonable dislike for the character.

3) I rest my case when you say you like Kodi more than Ralph because you share the same 1-dimensional view of life. And that's why no person, represented as Dusty, would care to spend the rest of his/her life with someone as such.

Why do you think so many GIRLS prefer Dusty with Ralph? Because we're incapable of forming our own opinions? Opinions, which by the way, hold up more than any Dusty/Kodi fans.

You say Dusty would be better with Kodi because it's "logical" which falls in the reasoning of parents betrothing their children. It's boring (which falls equal to Kodi's persoality I might add xD)

Any other fans, females in particular, like Kodi/Dusty for ideal purposes, like Kodi is "attractive" to them. And Dusty was the only girl on the team. Otherwise they pair him with an OC.

Any other fans, males in particular, like Kodi/Dusty because they feel like they can "relate" to Kodi. Much like the group of girls who fawn over Twilight, where they supposedly "connect" with a character that's so watered down, that the character can literally be anything. We only know a few things about Kodi 1) He likes his job. 2) He'll do anything to keep his job. 3) He's proud of his father. 4) He's easily persuaded. So easily persuaded that he can go up against his role model. 5) He's a mama's boy. Those are literally things we know about Kodi from watching the movie. Why people, particularly males, feel so attached to this character is both shocking, and yet not a surprise. So when they do, they feel like he (they) deserve the best girl around. Which, in Kodi's case, the ONLY girl around him is Dusty.

Let's put a second girl dog in the movie. People would pair Kodi with her because of the obvious appearances of Dusty/Ralph. And since you have that possibility, it makes Kodi/Dusty all that less likely to work out.

I used to think Kodi was meant for Dusty, but now I think differently, because I prefer the Ralph/Dusty pairing, just like the filmmakers intended.

Yes and no. What I'm saying is that it makes no sense to ridicule Kodi whether you look at what he was doing as an act of canine nature or of human reasoning. In either case, he was doing the right thing.

I'm confused. Why are you thanking cat? She didn't post this topic.

Steele? Echo, Steele is old enough to be Dusty's father. That's a little... disturbing, really. She'd have to go with a dog her age, which would either be Kodi, or Ralph.

I don't really care about the conjecture or the objections, because Steele was one of the options, therefore i chose that one, please don't tell me otherwise because Ralph and Kirby in my oppion are NOT GOOD ENOUGH for Dusty; they're just annoying, hear me out.

Dude, lemme tell you something.

That's an AWESOME idea. The fact that Steele is older than her makes it better. They're both fast race dogs. The best of the best.

Cat ---> Hmm... well, since you put it like that, it does sound rather interesting. I guess I was bothered by it because of the whole 'old enough to be her father' thing.

Wait a minute. Isn't cat's argument based on what humans would choose for Dusty, rather than what she would choose? I seem to recall someone complaining about the arguments in favor of Kodi (e.g. he's responsible, he works hard, etc.) coming across as a betrothal arrangement. Wouldn't the assertions she's making in Steele's favor be even more so?

Correction; no good chemestry

In the interests of consolidating the two topics, Echo, I said that Dusty's reaction to Kodi's scruples was negative at first. Who knows, the change of heart in one area could have possibilities. Once it gets through someone's head that life's not all about fun, games, and looking out for one's own interests or those of an inner circle, who knows?

Well, if you want to get technical, dogs that are two years apart in age are old enough to be the other's parent xD But it would make for an interesting scenario, I say.

Tsk tsk, double poster. Well if y'all want to get into what Dusty would choose, she's obviously already chose Ralph xD So I don't really think the fans care about free will here.

Oops, I guess I hit the quote button instead of edit. As if that changes the validity of anyone's argument.

Now let me see if I have this right: Dusty can use her free will to dump Ralph for Steele, who is arrogant, self-centered, and as heartless as a jellyfish, but she can't use that same free will to go with Kodi, who has a sense of morality and some decent priorities? It seems to me that if anyone's not giving a thought to Dusty's free will it's the Ralph/Dusty fans. And it seems to me that you never play the free will card unless it supports someone taking the lower road.

No need to get angry. I'm a bigger fan of Jenna and Steele. I just said it was an awesome idea. And she wouldn't dump Ralph for anyone xD He's a good guy and no one gives him enough credit as long as goody two-shoes Kodi's around. Fans always go on about the underdog never getting any credit, but here we are. Not only do people make Kodi brave, heroic, and deem him as perfect, they also give him the only girl that's in the third movie xD

Angry? More like annoyed. Though your insistence on pairing Jenna with Steele proves my point all the more (I mean come on, he only tried to cut off her owner's life-line. Nothing some muscles and an empty head can't make up for, right?).

And it's not like I'm saying Dusty should dump Ralph just because Kodi's got more going for him. I was on the receiving end of that kind of treatment. Not fun. If she were to break up with Ralph, I would say it should be for something about him specifically - say, his weak morality.

You're also overstating your case when you imply that fans consider Kodi perfect in every single way, at least if you ean that suggestion to be a blanket statement. Speaking for myself, I'm not saying he didn't need to learn a thing or two about standing up to peer pressure (which he did learn) or that he didn't have to work on his priorities some. And it honestly annoys me when other people go that over the top about him almost as much as it irks me when you treat his diligence and other virtues as if they were vices (the difference in how much it bugs me probably has to do with the fact that from what I've seen, they're less persistent about it). Nor am I saying he HAS to have Dusty, although I personally like the ways their personalities bounce off each other. I've seen some good Kodi/OC pairings, like the Kodi/Claire stories. But then this topic's not about whom Kodi should be with, it's who Dusty should be with. And unless Steele had a total evil-ectomy (not to mention some liposuction on what passes for his brain), Dusty would have to be some kind of idiotic bimbo to choose him. Just look at the girls he attracted in the first movie, namely Dixie. Enough said. And even she was sensible enough to dump him in the end.
