Seen some classic rock represented faithfully from several members. Really nice music video there, El Capitan. While not one of my favorite Tom Petty/Heartbreakers songs (Listen To Her Heart, I Need To Know, and the blazing guitar riff/solo of the popular "Running Down A Dream" are more my style), it was a beautifully constructed video that matched the lyrics and music very nicely.

Thank you! Well, I happen to like songs that have half-steps up and down the musical scale (natural to sharp, natural to flat, etc.). That song, and the examples I linked at the bottom of this post, are perfect (and one involves Tom Petty, while both are from Stevie Nicks). And I love that sound...musically-speaking (especially in the first example below, and in my existing video), it's just a beautiful, emotive sound.

I love Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers (and Tom Petty's solo work), and the songs you mentioned are fantastic, but I still maintain that the one I used is almost perfect for a Balto video, from among the band's works.

Heck, even seen some country thrown in there! Normally, I'm not a fan of country music, but Josh Turner is one of my favorite country vocalists, and his new single appears that he's in classic form.

Then you might really enjoy my inclusion of the late country legend (and actor) Jerry Reed's "East Bound And Down", which was featured in (and is a theme song for) the Burt Reynolds movie "Smoky And The Bandit": http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/fanvideo/East_Bound_And_Down/16059.html&detail=77552. I'm rather picky about country music, but there are some songs I do like. This is one of them. And again, the lyrics (mostly) work with the video footage from Balto 3!

HMXTaylorLee wrote:
It goes to show that a lot of music can be applied to Balto's themes.

It can indeed. And that varies greatly upon members' individual tastes and experiences. But I have seen good examples across the musical spectrum. I just happen to prefer classic rock. And, well, that's what I grew up with.

And now, those half-step examples I referred to: Stevie Nicks' "Outside The Rain", and Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty's "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". Beautiful musical work...and the lyrics could work in a Balto-themed video ---

Oooooh ho-hooo nelly! You're either very brave, or very foolhardy, for mentioning a Bieber song as being able to go well with anything! Way to go, Jooch!

Well, I'm not a Bieber fan either, JC, but I heard the song on a show, and the lyrics just screamed out "Balto" to me. Yes, the LYRICS, not the song itself. I will make a AMV with the song to prove my point if you'd like me to - actually, I plan on making it happen!

To Alkan and all other "haters": I figured most of you wouldn't understand my choice due to your obvious "ew bieber-blah-blah-blah" judgment, but it's my opinion on it [just like my opinion on WQ being the better sequel in the series, but I digress] and that's that, okay?

To be honest, I don't hear it thinking about this "teen love" subject that you think it's about... then again, it could be since Balto was fueled on by love [both for Rosy [as well as the rest of those sick] and for Jenna] more than anything; I think it's rather inspirational, as a song of the underdog [literally, that's Balto. How do you not see this? ...Oh wait, you're blinded by the whole BIEBER thing. I forgot. *sarcasm*] never giving up, even when you feel defeated. OKAY PEOPLE: Isn't that what Balto's all about? Geez, it is something encouraging, darn it!

So... deal with it~ I regret NOTHING.

It's all good, my dear Joocher. You know I respect your opinion and love your material (well, lots of it anyway). =)

Besides, on a separate note, you and I need to confer in private, in chat again. Soon. Let me know by PM or flag me down on WLM or Skype soon!

Serj could probably write a beautiful composition for Balto. Not rock necessarily but more of a orchestral format. Amy Lee could do the same.

What genre do you think Balto's music would be?

It's song related. If you're not a MOD don't post corrections or just PM. I'm no longer supporting this conversation and i repeat my question.

What genre do you think Balto's music is?
Country or folk related for me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T4eYeCKA2Y this one can relate to Dogs and Bones

It has nothing to do with the topic. This topic is about songs that go well with the movie, not about the soundtrack itself. Just because I asked a question doesn't mean I was mini modding.

I've made a video to this song. I did have to cut the song short, as the rest didn't go with Balto.

If Mighty's 'mini-modding', it's because she was once a mod and knows what she's talking about. You should thank her and listen before I have to come in and set you straight.
You've already answered the question. You've supported decent feedback to some posts. BUT. That doesn't mean you have to reply to EVERY post. Now stay on topic.

Man, I love the positively groovy basslines of country songs.
Fitting lyrics that Jerry Reed song had, aside from your aforementioned exceptions about the southern provinces and beer.

The guitar from the verses of "Here Comes My Girl" gets stuck in my head (despite it's inherent simplicity), but I can't remember any of the lyrics, and I think of the chorus of "Here Comes Your Man" by The Pixies. No relation.

I actually have the Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty track on Rock Band 3. It's a fantastic duet. She's a very talented vocalist.

For me, my videos are typically slaves to the music. Camera cuts on pivotal drum beats and vocal inflection, a line by line thing. Or at least, I try. It's maybe a lowest common denominator style, and I now officially hate 16th note drum fills that last for all of four notes across the toms, but I find it to be effective for emphasizing the music's importance as well as the video.

If I may ask, what did you think of my "Lift" video? It's a bit on the modern side (2004, album release in 2005), but I think it's a wonderfully uplifting song with very fitting lyrics.

I'm not going to say anything about Justin Bieber (I've never listened to a single song by him), but I'll confess this about myself regarding the Disney Channel music scene.

If you look at the Xbox Live leaderboards for "Disney Sing It: High School Musical 3", you'll notice that the number one global score has a very familiar name next to it.

If the lyrics didn't explicitly mention basketball, or school, or such, you could make a Balto music video pretty easily with one of those songs.

She most definitely is. And much of her solo work is at least as good as her work with Fleetwood Mac over the years.

I try to do that too, but I don't stick too hard to that. Nor do I tend to worry about the lip-synching thing so many other video makers like to do. The one moment in my "Here Comes My Girl" video notwithstanding (that, believe it or not, was more dumb luck than planned. lol)

Well, it's nothing at all against you or that band, but that style of music just doesn't move me. Most modern rock to me is bland, uninspired and too commercial. And repetitive. Ever since the 90s it's been mostly that way...with but few exceptions. The lyrics might be cool, but I can't get past the music and the vocalist's singing style.

I can't deal with any of the garbage from the High School Musical movies. Never saw anything more than promos, and despised every single ounce of them. Though I enjoyed the South Park parody of that stupid, vacuous movie series. lol

I always associated Stevie Nicks with Fleetwood Mac for the longest time. Whenever someone mentioned "Go Your Own Way" or another song by them, I always thought of her name.

I don't go for lip syncing either, unless it's to the band footage. In my upcoming montage, Balto perfectly mouths the word "Addiction" from the phrase "Then we're caught up in the arms race, an involuntary addiction." It was a complete accident, but I loved how it worked out.

However, I gather you will not be pleased by it. The montage contains FOUR (Five if you count the credits reel/overlay) snippets of songs by Poets of the Fall, one from each album, cut and edited by myself for brevity and lyrical selection. Each song will be focusing on a different character/relationship, with a pretty different musical styling behind each piece.

But, really, do we need debate when it seems too late? I doubt it will make much of a difference if that's how you feel. That's alright though, to each their own. Song aside, how was the editing otherwise?

I didn't much like the High School Musical films, but I found the songs positively infectious.

Ick, I don't like her, her songs are depressing. And that's up for you to decide if it goes with Balto or not, not us.

As a kid, I had a MAJOR freaking crush on her. lol But then, Fleetwood Mac existed before her and Lindsey Buckingham were brought in. Though their sound was muuuuch different (more folksy than rock).

Sounds like what happened with my video. lol

That's not necessarily true. I may like it. I am always willing to give stuff a try. But so much modern rock disappoints me as blah and uninspired crap. But let me know when you've completed it, and I'll give a spin. Hell, the video may be fantastic...the song is the question. lol

As I just noted, it's never too late. Don't give up so easily.
