Dakota, who's owner was interested in Greek Mythology, shook his head, peering into it carefully. "It seems to go down forever, like down to the Underworld, or Tartarus. Let's just hope Kronus didn't cause it. Or Typhon." Seeing Tally's confused look, he sighed and shook his head. "Nevermind," he said.

Charles shook his head. "Hey, you're crazy man. No idea what your talking about."
Ranger sighed. "Well, whatever, or whoever, caused it, I just hope it doesn't happen again. Can you imagine cracks like this going through the entire town?"

"Maybe it really is the end of the world. Like Old Ira said." Tally said, brown eyes narrowed in thought. "I mean, I don;t usually beleive in that stuff, but look at the clues. Earthquakes, weird weither. The springs overflowing, fires."

Ranger glared at her stubbornly. "I thought we agreed that we weren't going to believe that. Weren't you the one who said we wouldn't accept defeat? There has got to be a good explanation." Ranger sighed and scuffed his paw on the ground as if in deep thought before continuing. "I think we need to talk to Dodge and Roscoe to see what they know about this." Charles groaned. "But Ranger, you know how mean those two police dogs can be. The only think they are going to tell us is run after they chew our tails off." "With that in mind," Ranger continued, "Tucker knows them better than all of us. You may even say they are friends in a twisted sort of way. We find Tucker, and he'll get them to spill some information."

"Maybe he will, maybe he won't," Tally said, doubtful that the smaller dog could make a police dog spill and information whatsoever.

Ranger nodded. "We'll have to try."

The dogs made it across town to the police station where they immediately found Tucker, hyper as always, hopping up and down wildly.
"There you guys are! You hurt? No? Well that's good. You know what caused the shaking? I think it was a mountain falling over. you think so?"
"Tucker, shut up!" Ranger barked menacingly. "Where are Dodge and Roscoe. We need to ask them something."
Tucker hid behind Tally "Won't tell you. You yelled at me."

Tally decided to take over, and turned up the charm. Her brown eyes warmed and looked sweetly into Tucker's. "Tucker, we really would like to see Roscoe and Dodge. Do you mind telling us where they are?" she blinked slowly, her brown eyes guiless and innocent.

Tucker blushed, looking at his paws sheepishly. "Actually, I don't know where they are. After the ground started shaking, them and their officers took off really quick and I haven't seen them since."
Ranger sighed, then nodded. "Yeah, I can imagine that. I bet some human got hurt in that. Just wish they were here now. I'm kinda impatiently awaiting what they have to say."
As if on cue, suddenly two large doberman dogs wearing canine police vests burst out the back door of the police station. When the taller of the two dogs saw the unwelcome company he sneered. "What are you scumbags doing here. This is police property. We aught to send these strays down to the pound, huh Dodge?"
Ranger growled fiercely. "Most of us aren't strays Roscoe. We actually have homes with people who love us. Not living in a work environment like you all the time."
"Ah yes, the brainy Border Collie," Dodge piped in, "Why don't you use your smarts and stay out of our alley. Now get out of here before I have to pick your dirty long fur out of my teeth after I tear you apart."

Tally wondered if charm would work on the muscular dogs, and decided to try. "Helllo Roscoe. Dodge. We just wanted to talk," she said, cocking her head to the side slightly and blinking slowly, like she had with Tucker. "Is that okay?" Her voice was sweet and layered with charm.

Roscoe scoffed. "You think something like that would work on me? Listen babe, I don't touch dirty mutts like you, and neither does Dodge. Get out of here."
Tucker decided it was time for him to say something. The small raggedy dog stood up as tall as he could and stepped forward.
"C'mon guys. I'm asking too. Just let them ask you a few questions, and they'll be gone."
"Siding with the scum, Tucker? Looks like a sign of disloyalty," Growled Dodge dangerously. "Say good bye, mutts." With that, the two dogs charged at the group of friends, but before the big dogs got halfway to them, the ground suddenly started shaking again, more violently that before. Both dogs stopped dead in their tracks as the ground rumbled beneath their paws.
Ranger screamed, and pushed Tally and Dakota to the ground. "Stay flat, and put your paws over your head!" He cried as loud as he could.
Bricks and other debris was beginning to fall from the buildings on either side of the alley on top of them.
Ranger watched the two shocked dobermans fighting to stay standing several paces in front of them. Suddenly, right before his eyes, a crack began forming where the two dogs stood, pieces of the asphalt crumbling and falling into an endless abyss. Roscoe managed to jump out of the way, but dodge wasn't fast enough and got stuck on a large piece falling beneath him. Thinking fast, Ranger jumped up and rushed forward, grabbing the large police dog before he disappeared into the endless depth. The quake lasted for over two minutes, and when it was over, the crack was over eight feet wide, splitting the buildings and everything.
Dodge was struggling, desperate for Ranger to pull him up. "Pull me up, pull me up, pull me up! I'll do anything, just pull me up! It's hot! My back paws are burning! Pull me up!!!!"
Ranger struggled, trying to pull the big dog up, but his sheer weight, plus the waves of heat emanating from the crack made it impossible. Thinking quickly, he shouted. "Tally, Dakota, Roscoe. Help! Now!"

Taly rushed forward along with Dakota, and grabbed ahold of the police dog's scruff. She braced her legs, and pulled.

With the assistance of the other dogs, Dodge was managed to be pulled to safety. Once he was carried a good distance away, Ranger flipped him onto his back angrily and held him down.
"Okay jerk, you tell me everything you know about this right now! Maybe a close call with death makes you want to talk to us, huh? Or should I dangle you over the edge again, huh? Tell me!"
Dodge held out his paws pleadingly. "Okay, I'll tell you everything I know. It's not much, but I'll tell you. Just let me up."
Ranger held him down a moment longer, the with a sneer, let Dodge get up. "Okay then, start talking."
With a scared look on his face, Dodge began. "Since about 6 seasons ago, scientists have been coming to the town in droves, doing tests and stuff in the mountains. They keep telling the chief it's almost time. We're not sure about what, but this one scientist guy who keeps showing up here keeps talking about some crust getting thinner and about it breaking up soon. That's all I know, I swear."
Roscoe, who had been listening to Dodge spilling all the classified information butted in before Ranger had a chance to speak. He seemed just as scared now and Dodge. "I heard more than he did. Apparently they knew this was going to happen. Not only that, it's going to get worse. They said it's going to get hotter and hotter, and the land will start breaking apart..." he then paused, staring at the shocked dogs.
"T...Then what?" Charles asked shakily.
Roscoe stared at the shaking dog. "Then what? Nothing after that. Don't you get it? After that is the end. Of Everything!"

Tally was forced to sit down as shock coursed through her. At first she had only been surprised at Ranger's ourbust. THen the information had come along. Now she felt like she was about to pass out from shock. "You can't be serious," she said, brown eyes wide and fearful. "You mean we're walking on something that will soon be destroyed? Along with us?" her voice cracked.

Dog sniffed. "If I didn't hear that, then how did you? You been sneaking into the narcotics locker again?"
Roscoe shrugged. "Hey, I'm just telling what I know. And now that you got what you wanted, I suggest you leave before we finish what we started before the shaking started. Got it!"
Ranger nudged Tally. "Come on Tally. Let's go. We'll figure out some way to beat this."

Tally shakily stood up, and followed Rnager out of the door.
Dakota limped out after them, teh shaking has twisted a recently healed paw.
