Twilight shook his head and just walked away. They had to sort this out themselves. Yuma and Rowtag walked over and stood by Kai. "Here we go again." Yuma said. "Ya know, I've almost gotten used to it by now. Who do you think is gonna be the leader, Kai?"

"I don't know" Kai said in a small, quiet voice. "I"m afraid to say who... if I say one, the other's gonna hate me"

Noticing her siblings and Twilight's discomfort, Tosca backed off. She new this was going to eventually led to a bigger fight, but until then, she'd put it off for as long as she could. Before Una could even think about what she was going to say back, Tosca turned around and went back to the cave.
"And where do you think you're going!?" Una called.
"Away from you" Tosca grumbled. "Thanks to you, we've had enough excitement for today. Fighting's not going to get us anywhere especially if our neighbors decide our pack is like you"

Twilight looked up as Tosca entered the den. She looked extremely angry, and normally he would not say anything, but decided it was time for a little action on his part. "May I ask what it is that is bothering you?" he asked. The answer, of course, was obvious, but he asked anyway.

Yuma shook his head and stared after Tosca. "Why are you so mean to her, Una? You're sisters, and sisters usually don't say 'I love you' by fighting all the time." he said.

"Oh the usual" Tosca sighed, trying to release some of her frustration. "She just always has to prove herself... she thinks that because she's older, she knows everything. Eventually we're going to get into a real fight. I don't know when and over what, but I have a feeling it's going to happen"
Tosca plopped on the floor of the den even though she wasn't even a little tired.
"Se wasn't like this when we lived in our parent's territory"

Una turned to her siblings, not sure whether to be angry or sorry.
"She started it..." Una began. "And she's done her fair share of 'being mean' too! I was the best at leading back home! And I still am but she just has to keep fighting!"

The black wolf nodded slowly. "I have a sister. She and I used to fight sometimes." he said. "But now that I'm away from her, I'm starting to see that I may have taken the time I spent with my siblings for granted." He looked at Tosca with a distant sadness in his eyes that was deeper than the river at the edge of the territory. "Don't make the same mistake I did."

Yuma sighed and was about to say something, but much to his surprise, Rowtag stepped in and actually said something. "Una... we aren't back home anymore." he said quietly. Then he turned and walked to the riverside and stared into the swirling waters.

Tosca perked her ears curiously. She'd never heard Twilight talk about his own history before.
"You've got us now..." Tosca offered. "We're basically like her sisters and brothers now. Just younger"
The she-wolf placed her head back down on her paws silently and thought some more. She never took her time with Kai, Yuma or Rowtag for granted. Just Una.

Una glared as her brother walked away. How dare he say that to her! She knew she wasn't home! Her eyes flickered back to Kai and Yuma. Kai's blue eyes dropped to the ground.
"I need to go for another walk" Una muttered, turning around and walking along the river in the opposite direction.

Twilight, seeing that she needed some time to herself, retreated into his own thoughts. Rowtag entered the cave and laid down next to Tosca, giving her a sad smile. Yuma and Kai weren't far behind. The young male was shaking his head a sighing as he entered. "Una's gotta be having mood swings or something, because she is just so mad lately. She Never acted like this before." he said.

Tosca gave her siblings a faint smile, not bothering to lift her head.
"I don't know what's wrong with her" Tosca sighed. "We've fought before but never like this. Back home, she did know what was better. But this isn't home. Hopefully she'll get over it sooner or later. I don't want to think about what will happen if she doesn't"

Una sat on top of the hill. From there, she could see the whole territory. She felt like crying, but she didn't know if it was because she was frustrated or because she was failing. A few lazy flakes floated down from the partly cloudy sky and caught her attention for a moment. She had to think of something!

Yuma sighed and laid down next to Kai. The day was near its end and they were all somewhat tired. In a few moments the two younger wolves were asleep. Rowtag nodded off as well. Twilight was restless. He would never sleep, so he got up and exited the cave. Turning towards the semi-distant treeline that Yuma had spotted earlier, he began walking in that direction alongside the river. A small stream flowed into the river from the forest, and the black wolf followed this stream until it led him to a pool that was not too far into the forest. Here, he sat and brooded over the past. Memories of his siblings resurfacing where they had been buried deep inside his mind.

Tosca watched her siblings fall asleep and tried to nod off herself. Sleep wasn't coming as quickly it had before, but soon enough, the she-wolf found herself in a very light sleep. None of the wolves in the cave had watched Twilight exit. However, from her perch high up on the rocks, Una spotted the dark wolf against the moonlit snow. He walked into the woods and for a second, Una thought about joining him. She was too emotionally tired to be suspicious, even though she normally would be.
The grey-brown wolf sighed, then decided to go talk to Twilight anyway. Ever so slowly, she made her way down the rocks and down the hill. She still didn't trust him, but if she was going to be in a pack with him, she might as well explain herself. She followed the river to where the inky black wolf had gone to and noticed her broken reflection in the river. Had she really changed? Before she could answer the question herself, Twilight's form took shape ahead of her.
"Hey" she greeted awkwardly.

Twilight did not turn to look at her. He knew who it was before she had even spoken. "You know, I always found that anywhere there is water is a good place to think." he said, skipping any sort of normal response to her greeting. "The reflection in the water gives the impression that you're talking with someone like yourself, but just a little different. Wouldn't you agree?"

Una paused, then sat a few feet away from him, glancing into the calmer waters.
"Yeah, I guess it is" she said quietly. "I just wanted to... uh, make sure you didn't think I was an out-of-control idiot like the rest of them. I used to be in charge before... and now they want to follow Tosca around. I just don't get it"

The black wolf gave her a brief side-long glance, then turned his yellow eyes back to the water. "A new environment brings new perspectives." he said. "They may have thought to follow you before, but now that their surroundings are different, perhaps they think it time for a change in leadership as well." Twilight turned away from the water to face her, wincing ever so slightly as it put pressure on his scarred leg, and shrugged. "Either way I don't see why you should seek my approval. It is not my place to meddle with affairs between you and your family members."

Una sank down next to the river, studying her reflection and thinking about what Twilight had just said. So what should she do now? She could fight for leadership... or she could just go with the flow. But in Una's eyes, listening to Tosca would just be like admitting defeat. She'd just have to prove herself silently then. She already knew the pack across the river, so she had the upper paw on that.
"Uh, thanks I guess" Una finally replied, rising to her feet. "See you back at the cave"
Without another word, Una left Twilight, trying to decide whether or not to return to the den.

Twilight watched the younger wolf disappear between the trees and then returned his gaze to the pool. Memories swirled through his mind and seemed to replay themselves in the dark water's crystal depths. He saw the faces of his siblings, his old 'pack mates' that he'd known only briefly, and finally saw the last clear picture of his older sister's face as she had watched him fall to his supposed death. Sighing, Twilight turned away from the pool and made his way back out of the forest to return to the den.
