Uh mods, I really think you're not taking the complants as seriously as you should, if you've read the entire thing, you'll see some people are downright furious at you. I know this was amusing to an extent but in all honesty, a lot of us think you went too far. As some members mentioned, some people can only talk on this site, they don't have email or anything, so this site is the only place to chat with some of their friends. I know you were trying to be good humored but I think some people deserve a more serious apology than you've given them. We all respect you guys and that you deserve to be able to prank us on April Fools Day but a lot of members think you went too far this time.
They'll be furious at first, then angry, then frustrated, then they'll start to think clearly once they calm down, then they'll see that while the forums were locked, they could have done something more productive meanwhile (reading a book, watching TV, doing homework, etc.), and then they'll realize how silly it is to get angry on the internet.
That's really the fact of life.
It was all supposed to strengthen an illusion that we were serious since people caught on to the joke, so we all decided to lock the forums (except one topic and everything beyond page 2 in every section). This topic was kept open so that we could see the reactions.
We apologize for the inconvenience that caused, which is all we can do.
That being said, this topic has lost its "usefulness" so I will therefore lock it.
See you next year!
[edit]:
On a more serious note, we really are sorry for the inconvenience. But as I mentioned, there are other things to do in BS meanwhile.
But this prank has shown us some rather interesting things:
1) Members (mostly the young ones) threaten to leave (bye-bye, you'll be back soon anyway) the moment something appears to be threatening their accounts/fan content.
2) It has shown us how easy (and how quickly) someone can 'defeat' peace and quiet and cause a total uproar. This is important, because it makes it way too easy for trolls to do their thing. I direct you to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll and advice you to ignore trolls.
3) It has shown us that you (members) are not easily overcome when it comes to staffers "playing" with their mod powers, which is a
good thing. The fact you're uproaring re-assures us that you'll help us bring down abusive moderators/moderators that are incapable of doing their work/moderators abusing their position.
I direct you here:
viewtopic.php?p=854735#p8547354) You're not easy to trick. Hopefully, we'll be doing a proper april's fools joke next year.
