"Possibly." said Steele. "But this is marked path, its just hard to see and really traveled." he said. "Can anyone read the map?"
Star sniffed the air, smelling something. It was a strong scent, like some large animal, he could tell it was female because he could tell it was in heat, but he knew it was no dog...it was something bigger. "Do you guys smell that?" he asked, unnerved by it.

"Map?" Balto wondered aloud. "We have-"
He was cut off by Star's question. Scenting the cold air, he could barely detect the scent of a strange animal. "I do." he replied. "She seems big, and probably angry..." 'Great.' he thought, 'Just what we need after already needing to hurry, getting lost, surviving an avalanche... what could it be this time?' "We'd better pick up the pace." he called to them.
He turned back to Steele, "You where saying about a map now?"

"The musher always packs a map in the sled, its how he packs." said Steele.
Boris dug into the sled and found it. "I have found it!" he yelled. "Can anyone be reading this?"

Where Balto human and had palms, he probably would've 'faceplamed' at the moment. 'Of course Steele would know that,' he concluded, 'he is the musher's prize sled-dog.' "Good idea," He added out loud. "We'll stop and take a look at it."
He and Jenna pulled to a slow at the side of the trail. Balto backed out of his harness and walked back to Boris. "What on earth do these markings mean?" he muttered frustrated.
Jenna followed and peered over Balto's shoulder at the parchment. She had seen her Rosie look at maps before. She had shown the husky how far their house was to stores and even other towns. She hoped that what little knowledge she had with maps would be enough to help if needed.
She looked over the trails and landmarks of trees and rocks, of which ones may be recognized. "I think we just passed this point." she said while pointing at a rock-like formation on a trail listed on the map.
Balto nodded, "So where does that leave us?"
She glanced over it again. "If we can recognize another landmark, we may be able to find our exact location."
Kaltag yawned and scratched at his neck. He sniffed the air and glanced around as he sat wondering where they could be. Ah, it was no concern of his though. Of course he was worried, but he had to but his trust in the lead dog. Even when Steele was cold and heartlessly leading them, he always just followed. That's what being a sled-dog was about when you're not the lead. He laid down and rested his head on his paws while the brains came up with a plan...

Steele took a look at it. "I don't know how to read maps, but I think that's Bear Rock, its kinda hard to miss." he said, pointing. "We've passed another pass on the other side of it a few times, I think this line right here." he said pointing. "Hey...did anyone notice this path we're on is the only one that goes through here?" he asked. "And its rarely traveled, at least to my knowledge.
OOC: Feel free to have Steele's love intrest appear any time now.

OOC: Oh, I'm RPing as her? Must've forgotten. Did we ever decide on a breed or name though?
Jenna looked at the image on the map, then looked back to where they passed Bear Rock. "That must mean we're here..." she said pointing to a place on the trail they were on, and glancing at Balto who made more room for her. He listened carefully, completely absorbed in understanding what their location was. "and if this trail's rarely traveled, then there's a reason. And most likely not a good one. Could it be cause this trail's longer..." 'or because there's dangers more terrible than the avalanche?' she added fearfully in her head.

"I think the musher called it Tiger's Pass." said Star. "What's a tiger?"
"I don't know, but I've never heard of it." said Steele, admitingly. "But he's never had us go through this way before, no matter what the other options were." he said. "But compared to everything else we've been through, we can't stop now."
OOC: Her breed is a wolfdog, that's all I think we thought up.
